Possible angled treatment of player who left program. Now some MD scribes putting out that Willard sought to only NIL up Maryland starters last year.

Getting heat from who? Social media? And Lots of sour grapes at Maryland. Willard was right about them, look at what Buzz is dealing with. And everyone here was right about them when Willlard left Seton Hall in 2022.

Idk what’s going on with this player at Villanova. Seems to have issues but no clue what’s real or not.

Kevin is a disciple of Pitino. You don’t show up and give it all you don’t play.

If what is being said is true and there is not more to the story then this was poorly handled by Willard. Mental health issues are not a laughing matter and Willard supposedly laughing at him knowing he didn't play because of a 'foot issue' is embarrassing for the coach.

Sounds like Willard wasn't happy with him missing time. It will be interesting moving forward how this is handled. Worse case scenario for Nova, a lawsuit.

This is not just about Willard. If this was happening at any other Big East school it would still be news.

For Willard's sake I hope there is more to this story than what's being reported. If not, then he deserves major criticism.

I think I feel differently about this stuff now that the kids are being paid. Still sh*tty for Willard to drag the kid in the media, but if he's being paid and they need him for practice, he probably should be there unless he's seriously injured or suffering mentally to the point that he can't perform his job. And if that's the case, he should probably just take an unpaid leave of absence.

This feels like one of those things that's different now that CBB is professionalized. Maybe I'm off base.

Seems to be a fine line between needing help and helping the team. Technically, the player did leave the team. Danny "left the team" at the start of his junior year, didn't he? Maybe Willard (.... never Mr. Articulate...) is saying kids need to push through some/ a lot of challenges they face.
That said, mental health among young people is important to recognize

Danny leaving the team is 30 years old and a different generational perspective. His scenario in the present would be a significant red flag needing support, help and treatment. There is stigma association and 90s isn't present day world view.

Doesn't sound like Willard handled this well at all. Not a lot will come out of this IMO. It is the usual sports scenario - if the kid was a star it would have been different. He is a deep bench player and so he gets let go. We've seen this kind of thing for years and all these coaches think they are gods.

If this is true though, what's to stop the player from sueing? Either for losing his 'ship, or if he didn't lose it from losing the opportunity to play at his chosen destination, Villanova.

Isn't this type of thing covered in his contract? I assume all of these players are signing contracts these days.
