Garrett Nussmeier pulls off epic trick shot at Manning Passing Academy

Garrett Nussmeier is among the quarterbacks with a bright future participating in the Manning Passing Academy. If the NFL doesn’t come calling though, he might have a future with the crew at Dude Perfect.
The LSU star hit an awesome trick shot at the event on Friday evening. Check it out below, as Todd McShay shared it to X. It showed off his awe-inspiring accuracy in the process.
That’s pretty sweet from Nussmeier. LSU fans are certainly imagining him dropping the football into his wide receiver’s hands and not a basketball hoop, but that pinpoint throw is beautiful nonetheless.
While trick shots are nice, and make for an epic highlight reel, Nussmeier is more concerned with success on the field. It’s his second-year starting for the Tigers, and that usually bodes well for the team. Both Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy in Year 2 of starting with the program.
Year 1 was pretty great for Nussmeier, as he put up huge numbers in 2024 after taking over for Daniels. He threw for 4,052 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. Now, he’ll run it back for one more year with hopes of improving his NFL Draft stock.
But when it comes to comparisons to either Burrow or Daniels? Nussmeier is keeping things in perspective. He wants to write his own legacy while also hoping to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a title.
“I’m Garrett Nussmeier,” Nussmeier said, via the Manning Passing Academy . “I’m not Jayden Daniels, I’m not Joe Burrow – I’m Garrett Nussmeier. So I’m going to be the best Garrett Nussmeier I can be and hopefully, it’s enough for the LSU Tigers.”
As he gets ready to take a jump as a Year 2 starter, Nussmeier pointed out the high bar. But he also said he’s in a much different place than he was a year ago because he has a full season of games to look back on and review.
“It’s a lot,” Nussmeier added. “Being able to watch an entire season, correct mistakes and to go back and see my weaknesses and see things that I need to improve on, find the tells that I may have been giving to defenses and things like that. It’s a totally different ballgame, to have a full season to be able to watch and correct. Also, just from my personal growth as a player and having those experiences under my belt, I’ve seen a lot.
“We saw a lot of different defenses last year, a lot of different things. People had to try a lot of different things to stop us. Being able to see all those things – all those different pressures, all the different coverages – is something that’s going to help me a lot.”

Time will tell how high Garrett Nussmeier can climb in 2025. The bar is high, and he’s capable — LSU will go as far as he can take them this season.
LaNorris Sellers unleashes deep ball during Manning Passing Academy
Garrett Nussmeier wasn’t the only quarterback to make some highlight reel-level throws at the Manning Passing Academy. South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers in attendance, and he turned heads with one particular deep ball that was caught on camera.
Sellers took a five-step drop and heaved the football. Dropping back to the 28-yard-line, with one flick of his wrist launched the football down inside the opposite 10-yard-line. He caught his receiver in stride as the crowd cheered in appreciation for Sellers’ effort.
Sellers arm strength was on display for the Gamecocks throughout the 2024 season. His first as the starting quarterback, Sellers threw for 2,534 yards, and 18 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions thrown. He’s expected to make a leap from last season as early draft boards see South Carolina’s budding star as a potential first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft cycle.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer described Sellers as “steady.” His quarterback is able to block the outside noise and maintain a level head win or lose. Beamer cited his character and humility as reasons why Sellers is always striving to be better.
Now a second-year starting quarterback, Sellers is going to be put under a microscope as one of the projected top draft prospects in next year’s cycle. He’ll be expected to play like one, too.
All eyes will be on Sellers as South Carolina kicks off its 2025 regular season against Virginia Tech inside Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday, Aug. 31. They’ll host South Carolina State the following week in the home opener, as well as Vanderbilt in Week 3’s SEC opener.
