There’s been an uptick in quarterback recruiting in Baton Rouge as Brian Kelly and LSU seek their next great signal-caller following the departure of Jayden Daniels.

The Tigers’ 2024 class features Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy four-star Colin Hurley, the No. 19 QB in the cycle, per the On3 Industry Ranking. Kelly, QBs coach Joe Sloan and the LSU staff also have their eyes set on the top two gunslingers in the class of 2025: Belleville (Mich.) Five-Star Plus+ Bryce Underwood and Nashville Brentwood Academy five-star George MacIntyre.

Both juniors are being pursued heavily by the Tigers. LSU recruiting insider Shea Dixon joined The Inside Scoop to detail the latest on where LSU stands with both prospects, as well which QB is currently more likely to wind up in purple and gold.

“Joe Sloan’s been on them both for well over a year. Didn’t even hand out really any other offers at quarterback, it’s always been about these two,” Dixon told On3’s Josh Newberg.

Joe Sloan has led the charge for both recruits and was even in Nashville last week on LSU’s bye week to see MacIntyre in action. In return, both have been in Baton Rouge multiple times for visits. Underwood was in at the end of July and recently in October, while MacIntyre checked in at the beginning of June and the end of September.

Underwood — the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle — is likely to pull the trigger on a commitment first between the two, as he’s remained set on a Jan. 6 decision, while the spring has been mentioned with MacIntyre — the No. 14 recruit and No. 2 QB.

“Underwood the first to come off the board, I think that’s who you really look at right now. I honestly think that LSU has a really good shot here,” Dixon said. “I will lean maybe percentage wise they’ve got a better shot at Underwood than they do MacIntyre.”

The Tigers’ main competition for Underwood is the in-state Michigan Wolverines, while the likes of Colorado and Penn State are also lurking about. It’s Alabama and Tennessee that appear to be the biggest players in MacIntyre’s recruitment alongside LSU thus far.

Michigan has the lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for Underwood, but the play of Daniels for LSU this season could prove to be an important factor in luring the QB across the country to The Boot.

“Underwood seems to be Michigan or LSU. Michigan being the home-state team just an hour away. I know there’s a lot going on up at Michigan right now, but in the same sight, they’re undefeated,” Dixon said. “They could end up in the playoffs, all these things, so it’s going to be intriguing to see how LSU finishes, but I will say LSU holding the nation’s top offense right now and Jayden Daniels — maybe the nation’s best QB and in the race to potentially be up in New York for the Heisman Trophy — is a big deal to Underwood. So I would lean Underwood.”
