LSU linebacker Whit Weeks has been ejected from a game against Florida for targeting. Officials made the ruling on the opening series of the game for the Gators.

Weeks was running toward a tackle when he appeared to lower his helmet into the tackle. His helmet caught Florida receiver Vernell Brown III right under the chin.

After reviewing the play, officials determined that it was, in fact, targeting. Whit Weeks will have to miss the rest of the game as a result. You can view the hit in question below.

The Whit Weeks ejection will force LSU to play without its leader on defense, the heart and soul of the team on that side of the ball. He’s been a force when healthy and available.

The preseason first-team All-SEC selection has logged seven tackles through the first two weeks, as well as a half tackle for a loss and a half sack. That comes after a season in which he logged 125 stops, 10.0 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, four passes defended and three pass breakups.

Florida, LSU get into pre-game scuffle

Nearly an hour and a half before kick-off Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Florida and LSU players broke into a pregame scuffle during warmups. The players were split up before things could escalate further, but guys like Whit Weeks were undoubtedly fired up by the fracas.

The Gators, fresh off an upset loss at home to USF, kick off play against LSU Saturday night at 7:30 PM ET. Florida was ranked No. 13 in the country last week but dropped out of the AP Poll completely following the disappointing defeat.

LSU opened the season strong with a 17-10 win on the road against then-No. 4-ranked Clemson, but looked like it was just going through the motions last week against Louisiana Tech. The Tigers came away with a comfortable 23-7 win thanks to a strong defensive showing, but could never quite put the hammer down on the Bulldogs.

Florida currently leads the all-time series against LSU 34-32-2 and won last year’s matchup 27-16. Prior to last year’s win for the Gators, LSU had won five consecutive meetings dating back to 2019. This year’s matchup however is likely the most important for Florida in the Billy Napier era, as he would sink under .500 as the head coach in Gainesville with a potential loss.
