Texas A&M injury updates: Mike Elko reveals multiple Aggies players out entering Week 1, new season

Going into the season fans all hope that the injury report is free and clear, but that’s not the case for many teams. Texas A&M has had a few season-ending injuries already, and coach Mike Elko provided some updates heading into the season opener.
The second-year Texas A&M coach will have to make do without a few key players. Others he hopes to get back at some point this year.
“Injury updates that I just want to give you guys real quick as we get out of fall camp,” Elko said. “Jerome Myles will be out for the season. Unfortunately he sustained a lower leg injury during camp that required surgery.”
Myles is a freshman wide receiver who was highly ranked coming out of high school. He checked in as the No. 24 overall player in the nation, a five-star prospect. He almost certainly would have gotten some burn this fall.
Texas A&M will have to turn elsewhere for those contributions. It will also have to find additional depth on the offensive line after losing a key second-year piece.
“(Isendre) Ahfua will be out for the season, same kind of deal,” Elko said. “He had a lower leg injury that he’s going to require surgery that’s out for the year.”

Texas A&M was hoping the second-year offensive line prospect could begin to help contribute to the depth at the position this fall. To that end, there’s more bad news.
“Then (Reuben) Fatheree will be out for at least the first few games,” Elko said. “We’ll kind of see timeline wise in terms of getting him back, but that’s another lower leg injury.”
Fatheree is a senior at Texas A&M, having gotten pretty involved a year ago. He appeared in every game and made a start in the Las Vegas Bowl against USC. Fatheree previously started 12 games at right tackle during the 2022 season, while he started nine games in 2021. He’s got plenty of valuable experience.
Still, Elko is maintaining a positive attitude as Texas A&M heads into its season opener. The Aggies will take on UTSA on Saturday with a game that kicks off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
“I think outside of that we came out of camp pretty healthy,” Elko said. “Excited and ready to go.”
