Brock Cunningham says details resulted in loss at Texas Tech
Texas–Texas Tech has been one of the more underrated rivalries in college basketball over the past couple of years. The Red Raiders have had a ton of success as well, getting another win against the in-state foe on Big Monday. Nobody in Austin is happy with the results but especially Brock Cunningham.
When asked why they fell on the road, Cunningham said small details were not done correctly by Texas. A slow start on the road in the Big 12 is cause for disaster, especially in an environment such as the one in Lubbock. Cunningham says they were never able to recover and came up short in important areas.
“We missed some open shots and some defensive assignments that slipped on us,” Cunningham said. “The details got us at the beginning of that game and forced that slow start.”
From a statistical perspective, Texas did not have the worst shooting night. As a team, the Longhorns were just under 40% from the field and made 11 of 27 three-point attempts. What Cunningham is referring to is more timely shots.
Texas was able to cut into the Texas Tech lead but never fully overcome the deficit. Key shots at key moments were not dropping.
Cunningham will have a chance at redemption, facing off against Oklahoma on Saturday. Playing at the Moody Center will certainly help the cause, hoping to get back on the right track.

Brock Cunningham returning to Texas for 2023-2024
Texas is in the midst of a potential Big 12 regular season championship run but some are already thinking about next season. A new head coach will be in charge but they will have at least one player inherited on the roster.
Cunningham announced he will return to Austin for a sixth season of college basketball. Due to redshirting and COVID-19 eligibility rules, a cult hero within the program has another opportunity to wear the burnt orange.
“Yes sir, I’ll be back at Texas next year,” Cunningham said.
If everything goes according to plan, Cunningham will have the opportunity to make the most appearances in program history. He is just over 40 short of the record. However, his focus is on making a run with Rodney Terry’s squad this season.
“That’d be a nice record to have, but I’d rather go get a Big 12 Conference championship, another tournament championship, and make a run,” Cunningham said.
