Big 12

The women’s college basketball season is now one month away, which means it’s time to start diving into some preseason coverage. The Big 12 will be the second league we break down at On3, with others to come in the following weeks.

To kick things off, we start by showcasing the league’s top transfers in.

OLIVIA MILES, TCU

15.4 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.8 APG, 1.4 SPG, 41 3-pt% at Notre Dame

Olivia Miles is far and away the most meaningful portal addition in the Big 12 – and probably women’s college basketball as a whole. It was a bit of a shock when the star guard left Notre Dame for her final season, but TCU head coach Mark Campbell never fails to add a star-studded transfer class. She’ll be the focal point of this team and the major reason why the Horned Frogs are projected to succeed yet again.

JADA WILLIAMS, Iowa State

11 PPG, 2.6 APG, 1.6 SPG at Arizona

Iowa State has a new point guard at the helm for the first time since 2019. Jada Williams has a high basketball IQ and adds a defensive presence who can shoot the ball. As one of few newcomers, I see her as a main factor in the trajectory of the Cyclones this season.

MARTA SUAREZ, TCU

12.9 PPG, 7.2 RPG at Cal

TCU added a strong, veteran post presence in Marta Suarez from Cal. She can stretch the floor and has four years of P5 experience under her belt. Alongside Miles, Suarez is another key piece for the Horned Frogs.

AMARI WHITING, Oklahoma State

10.3 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2 SPG at BYU

Amari Whiting stays in the Big 12, transferring to an Oklahoma State team that’s on an upward trajectory. Her experience, defensive presence and playmaking skills will certainly make a big impact this season.

TALIAH SCOTT, Baylor

22.1 PPG at Arkansas in 2023-24

Taliah Scott had a phenomenal freshman season at Arkansas two seasons ago before opting to transfer to Auburn, where she redshirted due to injury. She’s now onto her third school in as many years, but assuming she’s healthy, she’ll score the ball at a high level for the Bears.

HALEIGH TIMMER, Oklahoma State

12.8 PPG, 4 RPG, 41 3-pt% at South Dakota State

If you don’t know her yet, you will soon. Haleigh Timmer has consistently been one of the best mid-major players in the country for a winning program at South Dakota State. Her poise, versatility and ability to shoot from the perimeter is going to make a difference alongside their returning talent.

CARTER MCCRAY, West Virginia

10.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG at Wisconsin

Carter McCray excelled in her first year at the P5 level with Wisconsin. She can finish at the rim and rebound the ball at a high level. Alongside a few other key additions, McCray should have the opportunity to contribute yet again this year.

KIERRA WHEELER, West Virginia

15.8 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.9 SPG, 2.4 BPG at Norfolk State

West Virginia added another strong post player: Kierra Wheeler from Norfolk State. Wheeler is an elite scoring threat and just as significant on the defensive end. Her versatility will come in handy.

ZYANNA WALKER, Colorado

8.2 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 3.4 APG, 1.6 SPG at Kansas State

Colorado adds a veteran presence in Zyanna Walker this season. At 5-11, the guard is a capable playmaker, rebounder and scoring option. With plenty of newcomers, Walker is the one I’ve got my eye on early to make an impact.

LANI WHITE, Utah

9.6 PPG, 50 3-pt% at Virginia Tech

Utah fans may recognize the name Lani White. That’s because, for the first two seasons of her college career, she was a Ute. After transferring to Virginia Tech for a year and boosting her usage, she’s back and is poised to earn more minutes and have a strong senior campaign.

LAST-TEAR POA, Arizona State

2 PPG at LSU

Last-Tear Poa is one of the few players on here whose production isn’t the reason she made the list. Yes, she’ll almost certainly expand her usage and role with Arizona State, but it’s her experience that makes her such a valuable addition. She’s a national champion and will bring a winning mentality to a team that’s in year one of a rebuild.

MICKAYLA PERDUE, Arizona

20 PPG, 3.3 APG, 1.3 SPG at Cleveland State

Mickayla Perdue is another mid-major star who transitions to the P5 ranks. The 5-7 senior guard was one of the nation’s leading scorers a year ago and was named Horizon League Player of the Year. She loves to shoot the ball and will bring experience to a brand-new Arizona team.
