Michigan commit Brady Smigiel suffers season-ending ACL injury

The injury scare from Newbury Park‘s (Calif.) Friday’s 31-21 win over Santa Barbara has been confirmed: Michigan commit Brady Smigiel high school football career has likely come to an end.
Smigiel, the No. 172 overall prospect, No. 21 in California and No. 11 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, has suffered a torn ACL injury to his left leg, per High School On SI’s Tarek Fattel, which was confirmed by Newbury Park coach Joe Smigiel.
Smigiel suffered the injury after the quarterback leapt over the goal line for a touchdown that gave Newbury Park a 21-7 lead over Santa Barbara. It was afterwards that Smigiel had to be assisted off of the field due to an injury. Multiple reports on Saturday stated that Smigiel suffered a knee injury and was going in for an MRI, which ended up confirming the season-ending ACL tear.
The senior quarterback likely ends his 2025 season having completed 134 of 208 passes for 1,624 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Panthers. Newbury Park’s other two quarterbacks that have attempted passes this season are junior Tyler Mayer and sophomore Darrien Johnson, respectively.

Smigiel was coming off a superb junior campaign in which the passer had thrown for 3,521 yards, 49 touchdowns and just three interceptions last season.
Newbury Park is currently 4-2 on the season and fallen to Pacifica and St. Pius X – St. Matthias, which the Panthers did lose on the field to Millikan — which has since been overturned to a Newbury Park win due to the Rams having an ineligible player.
Next time Newbury Park takes the field is Friday night against Calabasas.
