Mitchell (Fla.) sets county records with 80-0 blowout win

On Thursday night, a county record for points in a game and touchdown passes by a quarterback when Mitchell played one-win Anclote in their regular season finale.

The Mustangs set a Pasco County record when they defeated the Sharks 80-0, to finish the season at 8-2. Also in the process, Mitchell senior quarterback Cayden Thomas threw nine touchdown passes in the first half, setting another county record.

Mitchell (8-2) already posted the unofficial offensive statistics for the game, with Thomas finishing 12 of 17 passing for 276 yards and nine touchdowns. Thomas has entered the game with 1,734 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season.

Thomas passed both former Zephyrhills quarterback Brendyn Colella and Luke Knight, formerly of Wiregrass Ranch, with each passers having tossed eight touchdowns in a game.

The Mustangs have already clinched the Class 6A, District 9 championship and is currently the No. 6 seed in the region.

Mitchell exited the opening period with a 43-0 lead and by halftime had built a 66-0 advantage. Just 11 points away from setting a county record, the Mustangs added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to secure the feat.

Anclote finishes the season at 1-9 and it’s the fourth one-win campaign in the program’s history. The Sharks have struggled in the last several years as a football program, winning only four games between 2021-25.
