Basketball coach hot board

Golden isn’t leaving but on the off chance he does this should be our 5 names to go after. 1. Nate Oats 2. Billy Donovan 3. Tommy Lloyd 4. Tony Bennett 5. Hartman

Our fanbase likes high scoring, fast-paced teams. Tony Bennett would be the complete opposite of that. If it ever comes to that, which we all know is not happening, I don't think the list should get beyond these two names:

Mark Byington
Kevin Hovde
I've actually given this some thought. First I'd want to see if Dust May has any interest. He's coached at UF before and spent most of his career in Florida. Only been at Michigan 2 years, and frankly, we are an objectively better basketball program. Doesn't mean he'd be interested, Michigan is still a very good one. But maybe he wants to come back to Florida... After that Flynn Clayman from High Point. Josh Schertz from Saint Louis would be some names. Saint Louis looked very, very, very well coached to me. I also don't think Golden is leaving for UNC or Kansas if they open, but he will leave for the NBA if offered so it's never a bad thought to keep in one imo.

Really love the idea of Hovde coming back in the future but if we're making a hire THIS season, I'm not sure he has the experience/success yet. If we could keep Golden away from the NBA for a few years that'd be great and hopefully Hovde has continued to successed and can step in. His offense would be so fun to watch.

Why even post this? He has a 16 mil buyout. I say he waiting for the Golden State gig to open up. Not sure why the allure with the NBA. How's Billy doing in Chicago?

Can't see Lloyd leaving U of A for UF. That's basically the crown jewel program of the west right now. Their football $ sucks, but I think they're okay in hoops.

Florida has an MO when it comes to hiring hoops coaches. Sloan, Part 1 -- Young up and comer Lotz -- Young Dean Smith assistant Sloan, Part 1 -- the ONE exception that proves the rule Kruger -- Young up and comer Billy -- Youg up and comer Mike W. -- Young up and comer (supposedly) Golden -- Young up and comer. Next -- Will almost certainly be a young up-and-comer.

Golden State or Phoenix Suns would be my guesses.

Spurrier Zook Meyer Muschamp Mcelwain Napier Sumrall..... Come to think of it, in any sport, other than Mullen has UF ever taken an established coach from another program? Spurrier from Duke is probably the closest and I'm not sure that really counts considering he was a Heisman winner for us.... Based on that it would be Hovde wouldn't it 😅

I mean 16 mil won't stop anyone. Kentucky just paid 40 million buyout in FOOTBALL.. if (big if) there is mutual interest between Golden and UNC or Kansas they'll pay the buyout no problem. It's not even that big of a buyout all things considered.

That’s huge for basketball.

Yeah but in the grand scheme of things it is not a lot of money for programs like this. If they have an opportunity to hire Golden they're not going to let a mere 16 million stand in the way... They're spending more than that on NIL for their roster each year. They'll find the money, no problem, if that's all that is standing in the way.
