Thats what Whitt did at Utah. Just trying to look at possible candidates if he goes that route.

Two most interesting things will be what position will Whit hire for, and how quickly will he make the move. As others have mentioned the hire needs to be a high end recruiter.

O well, I trust Whittingham to find a good defensive coach and Michigan to provide the $$$ to do so. If Michigan does ONE thing right it's paying top dollar for assistants. We're always near the top of lists when it comes to highest paid assistant and probably are for assistant salary pool. @ClaytonSayfie , @AnthonyBroome , @ChrisBalas . Do we have a number on the total salary pool and how it stacks up with other top programs? Just curious since so many other college staffs are being raided by the pros and it'll probably be a competitive and expensive market (isn't it always) to replace any assistant with someone who is highly thought of.

Meh, the role of high end recruiter has been devalued a lot in the NIL/Rev Share era

Good stuff, thanks! 👍 I wonder what our counter offer was? I'd guess it was well North of a million.

Kind of amazing how bad the results have been for the highest paid guys lately. Larry Johnson’s washed, Georgia couldn’t pressure the QB at all this year, Bama meh, Clemson disappointed, etc.

I wonder if these schools essentially had co-defensive line coaches like Michigan, though. Because Lewis Powell would factor into how much money you're paying to coach those positions, I'd imagine

The NFL has always been an "easier" job, but the gap has widened to infinity now.

He is going to bring in another D-line coach. He has at Utah and would be a smart move to do here as well.

For sure. Andy Staples told a story on a recent episode of the College Football Enquirer how I believe it's a Miami Dolphins assistant who was in college before is a parent as Andy's kids' school and attended a function on a Friday night before a Sunday game. Andy asked him, you can come to this? He's like hell yeah. He said would you have been able to on a Thursday before a college game? He's like no. He said would you ever want to coach in college again? "Heeeellll no."

A high-end recruiter is a necessity. We have seen where the previous relationships have paid off in the portal. Would be malpractice to not bring in a strong recruiter who has connections.

Yeah it’s a problem and I don’t see it getting better anytime soon. It Was a tough job before the days of NIL, and especially the transfer portal, but it is exponentially different since those two new sticks of dynamite were thrown into the mix. The only consolations are 1. $$$ and 2. $$$ 3. Fulfillment

It looks like Clemson may have. But we do see co-coordinators quite often and one would guess their salaries would kind of mirror one another…though thats strictly speculation on my part. So how that works with two coaches on the DL could be similar.
