I actually think that would be the best thing for him and would gain him a lot of respect from the Carolina fan base.

It is inevitable.
It is his destiny.

I think that’s at least the way it’ll be presented to the public.

I would imagine Lee and Steve would give him that options first before firing him to save face. And if he’s smart, he’ll take it. He can still be celebrated as a great player.

He will step down with his buyout paid, versus being fired. Either way, he's getting paid and he's leaving. IMO

That would be the best scenario. He's said he feels like this is "missionary work" and this is his calling, so I don't see it happening. But hopefully he spends some time in prayer and realizes it's time to let it go (seriously. No sarcasm intended.)

No chance. Dude has never admitted a mistake. Blames players after every loss. We've been making the same mistakes for five years, this is clearly not a leader who engages in a lot of self-reflection, yall.

Maybe the decision makers present him with that option and he forces them to announce it as a firing instead. Would just be sad all around if it comes to that. And give up that $5mil buyout?

I think so too.
“I’m not meeting the standard I set forth for myself or this University and because of that, I’m resigning my post as head coach at the University of North Carolina.”

He is too stubborn to quit. He will have to be shown the door.

That is wishful thinking.
He is too competitive to quit. I’d lose respect for him if he resigned.
Fire him, sure, maybe that’s the way to go, but he is not & should not resign. From his perspective, he’s a Caleb injury away from a potential March run .& he’s got two highly rated freshmen coming in after a season with wins over Kansas, Ke yucky, & Duke. We all know the inexplicable losses are there, including tonight, but if I’m Hubert the paragraph above is how I’m looking at things. Plus, financially for his family, resigning is an irresponsible decision. Make them fire you & get your contract value.
I’m just playing devil’s advocate with this post. I don’t think Hubert’s got what it takes to coach at this level, but thinking he’ll resign is just a fantasy.

I know HD loves this program probably more than any of us. Hopefully that love will lead him to realize this is not working. If not, then hopefully someone he respects, you know who I mean, will suggest it. Of course that would mean they both would have to realize they made a mistake.

You know nothing about him if you think he resigns. He’s someone I consider a friend but he’s become arrogant and stubborn since being gifted this job.
Notice none of the guys that played with him except for Pete are ever at games these days.

I’m afraid you may be right… it will hurt him financially to resign. Hoping they ask him to resign.

We need God to come to him in a vision and tell him that it's his calling to do something else. Everyone hit your knees extra hard tonight
