Did Unhinged Fred Hoiberg apologize? He really needs a suspension for not being above the fray. The fan should not have gotten in his face but it wasn't like Fred was touched either.

Unhinged? From what I saw he slapped the dude in the back of the head. That's what he gets for being an idiot, in my opinion. Unless there is more than what I'm aware of, Hoiberg has nothing to apologize for.

Iowa apologized, good enough for me. This whole incident is a nothing burger, moving on.

Hoiberg was slapping at the phone held by the dummy recording and inadvertently hit the Iowa staff member in the back of the head. Hoiberg immediately said something to the staff member and gestured that his intent was toward the dummy recording and not the staff member. The staff member then patted Hoiberg on the chest twice in an "it's all good" manner and without further incident. I would assume that Hoiberg apologized to the staff member at that time.
This is 100% on the dummy recording and there is nothing that Hoiberg needs to do or say.

Big Ten says no action against Fred.

I didn't find the guy recording to really be threatening in his demeanor - more circling and filming and maybe mouthing off - something that he could have done just as easily from the stands as Hoiberg exited to the locker room. He didn't appear to be getting up into him like there was going to be anything physical.
Not justifying it, as I think it's stupid and classless, but to me the reaction wasn't called for because he wasn't really being threatened physically. If the fan did the exact same thing from a courtside seat as Fred was leaving and he responded the same way I think it would be clearer how much he was in the wrong here. So I guess I don't see it happening "on court" to really be that much of a factor here if that makes sense.
TBH I only saw the clip once and didn't hear about any staffer altercation, but if you make a habit of knocking phones from people's hands who are just filming you and mouthing off then you're going to have a lot of PR issues of your own making.
I do hope Iowa can identify the fan though and give them some additional "guidance" on behavior.
I don't think Fred should be punished either, but just commenting that I think him turning it physical was not a good move on his part.

Fan was dumb, no issues with Fred slapping the phone out of the way. This is a big nothingburger that requires no statements and what not.

I'm glad to see the University of Iowa issue the apology. There's a lot to unpack when it comes to court storming & field rushing. Obviously, it creates a community moment and the kind of connection experience you can't really find elsewhere. In many ways, the court rush/field storm is the 'product' the student section is buying when they shell out for tickets. After all, you can watch the game, follow the score, wear the gear in a million places. Only one can you rush the court. And defeating a top10 team isn't nothing. Especially a top10, neighboring state, conference foe, on and on.
An apology was due. It's a little like suggesting rules at a knife fight -- the court rush is a spontaneous (semi-so) unleashing of emotion. It's not a rational, orderly, processionally 'appropriate' behavior. It's the inappropriateness of it that is why it's fun and celebrated.
All the same, the foundational/fundamental '1 rule' of rushing the court, storming the field is pretty simple -- don't engage with the opponents. Let 'em go. Give 'em space. (i.e. Nutty Buckeye fan at OSU, don't run into Caitlyn Clark)
Since all it takes is one of the thousands or hundreds rushing the court to forget the rule... it's on the UI to manage the venue and the floor in such a way that the visitors have safe passage. It's probably the kind of thing that only works with practice. So here's to Iowa winning more big games at CHA and the floor staff at CHA getting better reps in forming the corridor from bench to tunnel.

I have a feeling much worse was said on the court during the game, but handled better

I guess I just said this in the wrong thread, but we have to keep in mind that the U of Iowa promo commercials during televised events heavily feature students storming the field/court.
Personally, I have no problem with it. But if you act like a punk and/or endanger others, deal with the consequences.

I did a double take when the fans stormed the court. It was a great win but not a storm the court worthy win.
