Any chance we look into the Georgetown center?

I think it's pretty clear UNC will add one more "really good" player. Either HV, if he comes back, or a replacement for HV.

We have to add a starting center, HV or otherwise.

Yeah I sure hope we aren’t done adding starting 5s to the roster

Impossible to know how it plays out, but it’s not the intention to be done.

I don't know why, I sorta expect HV to come back without entering the draft. If he does enter, then we cannot wait, but I am cool with us waiting on HV to make a decision. It's not like there are tons of great candidates at the 5 right now. If HV goes, we will likely have to look at international market or hope to find someone who entered the portal and drops out of the draft so it's a waiting game either way.

@SherrellMcMillan are we gonna be adding any players that could potentially be starter material? Or is the remaining of the targets more of fill ins?
Don't think you can lock into anything at the moment. Things are shaping up to look like they're close to done with starter-level guys. But, we've seen how this stuff can change quickly. For example, last year UNC was prepared to go with Jarin Stevenson and Jonathan Powell as its primary wings, while Ven-Allen Lubin would be 6th man and backup center. Lubin suddenly departs, UNC has additional funds and goes out and gets Luka Bogavac. He becomes the '3' most of the season and Stevenson joins the frontcourt rotation most of the season.

Really hoping that we at least look at somebody who could take some minutes somewhere in the 1-3 spots that is thought of as a good shooter. Bashir from Kansas St or Dorn from Indiana would be perfect fits, but I assume they want to start somewhere. I think the best route might be to finalize the 5 and then go for an international player over the summer after raising some more funds. The international guys are a little cheaper because you can offer a quality player $2 mil and it might be double what he's making overseas.

Close to done with no new names to know. I like the sound of that!

“Things are starting to look like they’re close to done with starter-level guys” with no new big man names to watch? Perhaps a Thursday morning nugget 👀

Regardless of whether or not Henri declares, we should already be in contact with the best available bigs. Need to be prepared to drop a bag for someone like Diop literally the second you hang up the phone after Henri tell you he’s gone

I don't think I understand. If Veesaar is likely gone then surely we are looking to add a starter at center....right?

There was always the strong chance that we would have to enter the season with some diminished expectations (especially if without HV). But, if close to done with starter level guys, then our current frontcourt looks uncompetitive rather than in the "lowered expectations" category. Maxim was brought in for back-up 5 minutes. Stevenson is clearly a starter, but a 4 who could also play the 3. I'm reaching way back for this analogy - when LaGarde went down in '77 (a bad analogy given the exceeding great talent on that team 1-4), we started "Wolf-aker" (Wolf + Yonaker) at center. Neither were ready, but Smith cleverly used a rotation. Steve Kraficisim (sic) may have also been the third in that rotation. Sherrell, do you imagine a rotation of "not ready" or "career rotation but not starter level" (f we can get them) players to fill out the 4/5 rotation? I realize Adams will get minutes at the 4. But, current HV'less team with Adams, Stevenson, and Maxim in the frontcourt looks like it will be overwhelmed up front on physicality, and talent to some degree. What kind of stopgaps do you imagine?

Does this mean we aren't actively pursuing a starter level Center in the event HV doesn't come back?

So the options seem to be that HV has now indicated he's coming back, our new backup 5 is going to be our starting 5, or we're close to a starting 5 that we don't know about. Two and three are the most likely.

We have 1 proven shooter on this entire roster in Able. Wild to think we are fine going into next season with 1 wing shooter.

I assume the implication is less "UNC isn't adding any more bigs" and more "UNC is close to locking up its starting big"
