Let's face it......

We probably have never had an offensive player like this. And now other teams will have to defend three or four other offensive minded players too. They won't be able to double team him because the others players will "rip" them! I can't wait to see this new version of Tennessee!

So who is the most recent comp for Juke? No one recently. Scotty Hopson maybe? Same size. Scotty as a junior put up good numbers, but Juke rebounds much better and passes better, imo.

I’m not gonna hate on enthusiasm This team will undoubtedly look different from anything we’ve seen in Barnes Era. Let’s have fun with it!

I saw Bernard during all his 3 years and he was a different player. He scored almost all his points around the rim. Juke won't total score as much because we will have so many others that will score. The reason I said we have never had one like Juke because he can get points from 3 and on drives to the basket unlike Bernard. It's sad we have so many dimwitted people on this site!

Bernard King was a player. He was amazing. Earnie was the other side of the show. We have had some great players like Alan Houston, Dale Ellis, Grant Williams, Chris Lofton and others. I do believe expectations this year is greater than any of our past teams. We have expectations to go to the final four and maybe even win it all. Barnes can teach defense. It’s hard to teach offense when the ability to shoot the ball is not there. He has assembled some offensive players. He has also gone farther with his prior defensive teams than most prior UT teams. I can understand the excitement.

Yes he was, 50 plus years ago.

Juke will remind us of Knecht….. juke has a better handle and is more fluid….knecht more powerful…. But in our offense where teams can’t devote their whole game plan on him, I expect him to get many more good looks from 3 and his efficiency will go up across the board. Plus, I bet Barnes turns him into a + defender (I also bet Hill and Haralson end up being really good defenders….)

It’s not just Bernard. I don’t think some on here realize how good Ellis was. When Juke scores over 19,000 points in the nba we can begin to make a comparison king ellis houston nobody else comes close. Frankly Tobias enters the discussion then

Then you must have a short memory. Those teams from the mid 1970's with King, Grunfeld and Jackson were a great collection of offensive talent.

Never mention anyone in the same sentence with Bernard King. You are the dimwit. I watched his entire career also. Scored 42 pts in his first college game.

I know exactly what you are saying, but i also know that Bernard was no slouch on taking the ball to the basket when teams clogged the middle to take things away from him. There were very few defenders who could handle his speed. His first step was a killer and if defenses took that away from him, we had Jacklson and Grunfeld who could fill it up from the outside and inside, not to mention Rodney Wooods. Thise teams had the disadvantage of playing in an era where there was no 3-point line.

If Juke can dribble, he is not comparable to Hopson, unless his shoulders can sag all the way the floor like a Scotty’s.

Here are the scores of 1974-75. Of course King was a great player, no one is disputing that, but we lost some games and some were played in the 50's and 60's too! 1974-75 SEC Schedule Breakdown (Per): University of Tennessee Athletics
  • L, 59-62 vs. Auburn (Away)
  • L, 65-71 vs. #7 Alabama (Home)
  • L, 81-88 vs. Ole Miss (Away)
  • W, 103-98 vs. #4 Kentucky (Home)
  • W, 85-84 vs. Florida (Away)
  • W, 75-71 vs. Vanderbilt (Home)
  • W, 109-83 vs. Mississippi State (Home)
  • L, 87-94 vs. LSU (Away)

Let's not forget that Juke was basically a one man show at Wake. He had the ball in his hands a lot and was given free reign to create. I think a stat I saw said he shot 200 more shots than any other player on the team. That's a lot! I hope we give him freedom, but it won't be to the same extent since we have other players who are capable of scoring. He had to score a lot for them to even compete.
