Says his mom wanted him finish basketball before getting it looked at. Didn’t basketball end 2 1/2 months ago? He knew he was enrolling at OU in December, so I don’t blame him for wanting to finish out his last basketball season. Should have had it looked at during basketball season and had surgery scheduled the week after season ended. Maybe could have played some his senior season of football, at the least he could have been totally healthy when he arrived at OU.

Well shat! I hate that he is missing his senior year and really hate he can't work out. That will put him behind when he gets to OU. Probably would have RS anyway. Plenty of time to get well.

Very common injury for guys in the trenches. Also very common for guys to play with or through it - especially high school kids trying to position themselves in recruitment or just stay on the field. My son tore his labrum and deferred surgery to finish out his senior season but he played with several guys that simply didn't get it checked out b/c they didn't want to hear the bad news or be told to shut it down by doc or parents. Anytime you see the black cuff on the bicep - shoulder injury of some type. It's a smart plan. Hackett has his spot at OU secured, get it fixed now, rehab for a few months. My son progressed over time but was cleared for upper body workouts and regular contact 6 months after the surgery but his doc was more conservative than others and it depends on injury, etc. Hackett should be ready to go in January to fully workout (assuming he is early enrollee). Whether he wants to return in November is up to him, parents and the doctors.

Can’t wait to spend my Wednesday nights waiting to see if “Hackett” is on the probable or doubtful section of the availability report

Bingo. I tore my labrum in high school, kept playing baseball anyway, and couldn't swing a golf club (or make any outward turning motion with my shoulder) without pain for the next five years. You don't screw with this stuff. He's well advised to just get it repaired now.

I'm not sure how he's going to miss the entire season. I had mine done in February of my junior year and was ready for team camp in June. That was almost 20 years ago.

A season to bulk-up and rehab before spring ball. No more basketball keeping him lean. If he's getting the OT NIL, he needs to get to OT weight. Needs to hit 300lbs plus

Good. Not there was any question at this point but he won’t be coming back asking for more NIL or taking trips if he’s not playing. Get healthy and get prepped to play in 27.
