Did Freeman say something or post something alluding to that?
Nope, it's just some people like to find a way to find the negative in literally every possible situation.

I could have sworn there is a term we used for these type of people on this forum… Starts with a B, but the rest escapes me, sort like urine flowing from a young person’s bladder and on to their sheets…..

I think people are reading into him saying "2026... lets run it back"....... but we are nitpicking.

Fwiw (don't shoot the messenger) - Through the grapevine, there is an "insider" at another forum(s) that has previously leaked player injuries beforehand and this meeting with Fr. Dowd. He stated that this for only 1 season and Elko & Lea were already contacted (with interest from both). Agaik, could be garbage but I think this is where this is coming from. He's signed through 2031 with a nice deal and a stacked team. So let's just focus on winning a National Championship in 2026.

I'm not sure I believe MF is leaving that quickly, but Elko and Lea would be my top choices if he did.

Okay. If that's true we need to get Kash Patel and Pam Bondi on this ASAP. Indictments are coming.

Me neither, I could see him staying until 2030 but at the same time, you just never know these days what to expect. Better to get out in front of this if it is true. Nothing to sweat over, just focus on 2026.

Honestly find that hard to believe. The Giants job is one of if not the best job in the NFL based on prominence. I know the world moves quickly in the NFL, but I don't see another situation being that ideal for someone like MF. What other job would he prefer over that job?

NFL jobs feel more about timing than prestige. How’s the stability in the front office (is the guy that hired you going to be around)? How’s the salary cap situation? Do you have young assets or are you aging? Secondarily would be division strength and winnability, but I bet most coaches being considered have the ego to think all else equal they’d come out on top. NYG is a prominent job in a premier market but looks kinda hellish for the next few seasons. You don’t have the luxury of time in the NFL. I don’t think it’s lost on Freeman that ND afforded him that very luxury.

Not sure I buy Elko being interested in coming to ND right now. That part doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Overall everything Freeman has done tells me he is a college coach through and through. I just don’t see him as a pro coach.

I think the hole in your line of thinking is assuming the Giants job was Freeman's to accept or decline. He was in the running, sure, but has anyone reported he was offered the job and turned it down? When we get to the point of Freeman straight up saying "no" to an NFL job offer to remain at Notre Dame, then we will have a really solid understanding of where his head is at.

Pittsburgh would probably be any aspiring NFL HC destination.

I think Freeman will stay for longer. I also can't see the school pursuing Elko after the way the A&M DC departure went. They matched what he wanted, and then came back for more. the priests have a long memory. Freeman has spent his whole life in the Midwest. I worry more about the Colts, Browns or Bengals jobs than the Giants. This year it was supposedly the Giants, Titans and Raiders that came calling. All rumors of course. Personally, I think the college jobs have become tougher than the pros. essentially, every player on your team is a free agent every year. You constantly have to keep recruiting your team. I think the Blair and the Hobbs departures indicate how tough it is. Blair was a top recruit, but blocked. He didn't want to work through it to get on the field. Years ago, he stays and maybe makes it. Hobbs had a tough year and didn't want to wait to improve. Both of them were serious depth pieces, and maybe they break through in another year.

Wish I could believe that. Grew up with the giants. Todays version is brutal and it goes all the way to the top. They are hard to watch as an organization. I’ve said this in another post. MF could coach another 5-6 years at ND go wash out in the NFL and be back coaching CFB before he’s 50 years old. He has time and ND is the place for him to be especially the way the staff has been recruiting. I worry more about the conferences and their members colluding against ND and the playoff. Need to not lose two games with NDs schedule and leave it in the hands of the committee. But it looks like that could be changing by adding more teams and if ND is top 12 they are in. But we’ll see

Now people in this forum think the Irish may win the championship next year and so do Freeman and to think he may leave after winning the championship and on top of this he will be considered some savior at ND and undoubtedly the administration would even give him more authority than anyone in sports history at ND, without a doubt he would be not one of the top but the top coach in college and you think he would leave a job of the magnitude? I don't think so and with all of the privilege and benefits he will be getting. I bet Saban was in this situation at Bama every year and where did he go? I would do the same thing every year with my contract.

I’ve got to believe he really wants to resurrect the most storied team in the history of college football. And by resurrect I mean ending the title draught.

If it is between Elko and Lea I would take Elko. Lea is an excellent coach great person however I heard he doesn't like to recruit even though he is good at it Elko like Freeman I heard he is a grinder. In today's college football more so then ever you need your head coach and every assistant coach to eat, sleep and drink recruiting 365 a year 7 days a week 24 hours a day. I remember when Urban Meyer retired after the 2017 season. He named Ryan Day as his successor. At the press conference he turned to Day who was sitting next to him and said right now is a recruiting dead period. It opens next week and you better be on it. Day shook his head like an obedient 8 year old responding to a parent demand. Could you see Brian Kelly saying that to one of his assistant coaches?

This radically contradicts the Ben Franklin observation that "three can keep a secret if two don't know anything." We'll see.
