What if we DON'T get Mensah? Then what?

Anyone who ASSUMES we get him is foolish. My question is what happens if we DON'T have him or if he somehow signs for more money at Duke or somewhere else? What if Luke Nickel leaves BEFORE the ruling? I don't see how they can MAKE this kid go to Duke if he doesn't want to...but Duke does have a signed contract for his NIL deal and it's binding. Then what?

There isn’t a back up plan really beyond our own qbs bc you can’t hold A top tier guy as your backup option. There isn’t even a spring portal. So DM or it’s one of the freshman and contrary to what everyone says it could very well be Coleman. It’s not great but it’s ALWAYS gonna be like this in major college ball.

I was over the whole QB thing, once all thr names came off the board (prior to Mensah being an option). I was all in at that point to ride with Luke, and ready to roll with the good/bad for 2026 season (i.e. Just like UGA did with Gunner). So, if Mensah comes GREAT, if he doesnt then let's ride.

After giving Duke the dump and then getting sued by them, it's hard to see a scenario where he returns to Manny. I am not assuming a thing but I suspect Mensah's agent has been working on a deal with Miami for a while.

Life goes on if Miami doesn’t land Mensah but the only way Duke can make Mensah honor that deal is to say that he’s a professional athlete…and that opens up a whole new set of worms for the NCAA

Worst case scenario is Malachi becomes our QB for 1 season he can definitely do it before you start crying I get that means we lose him as a WR option but this kid can do everything short of kicking the ball

I agree that we shouldn't just assume but no contract is unbreakable. There's no way that he signed all encompassing NIL rights over to Duke. Therefore there will be loopholes. Because of the wild west that is NIL with no rules, I can create a corporation that sells buckets of dirt and get investors (who happen to support UM NIL) and hire Mensah for $5 million to be our spokesman and post about our dirt buckets on social media. I can charge $5k per bucket of dirt which will ensure that nobody will buy one. There is no law or rule to prevent me from doing this and there is no way that the Duke contract precludes him from endorsing buckets of dirt.

You are right in that there is no such thing as 100% when it comes to future events. That being said, all of the plausible ways that this thing could go still end with Mensah being QB1 for the Canes next season.

You do realize , the only way to enforce it is to claim ā€œpay for play ā€œ, which flies in the face of everything NIL is supposed to be about if this were what they are claiming Lucas would have been a Badger this past season you can’t claim damages when there is a damages clause baked in , Duke will be made whole in the monies they paid out Mensah paying for Miami doesn’t do anything to directly ā€œhurtā€ Duke , Duke will have someone under center week 1 of next season

Why would Luke leave? With Emory gone, he’s the clear number 2. And if we get Mensah and he has a good year, he’s likely a one and done. He can then fight it out with Coleman for 27.

The ruling has already happened. Duke must allow Mensah to enter the portal.

I think the question is going to be him enrolling in time for spring.

Duke was told by court order to put him in the portal, they can try to appeal it, but given the nature of the situation, it shouldn't be much longer. And I thought I read yesterday they are going to follow the court order. I would hope Mensah is already here waiting at the registrars office.
