AP Poll Prediction: Projecting Top 25 ranking after Week 6 of college football

Nearing the midway point of the 2025 season, the contenders are beginning to emerge in a major way. And this weekend helped underscore that for a handful of likely AP Top 25 teams.
Saturday had a handful of ranked-on-ranked matchups, providing us with a much better gauge on how certain teams stack up. It also featured a few top 25 upsets, ones that will shake up the pecking order going into the following weeks.
There was a lot to digest. Today, On3 stops to break down some of the changes anticipated in this week’s AP Top 25. Let’s dig into our projections for the new edition of the top college football poll below.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
RESULT: 42-3 win vs. Minnesota
Ohio State rolled over Minnesota, making sure the game was never really contested. Quarterback Julian Sayin was sharp, throwing for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Carnell Tate had a huge day at receiver.
No reason to move Ohio State off the top spot in the top 25 at this point. The Buckeyes have a tricky slate coming up, with three road trips sandwiching a home date with Penn State over the next month.
2. Oregon Ducks (5-0)

RESULT: BYE
Coming off its major road win at Penn State, Oregon had a much-needed week off for rest and recovery. And the Ducks will need it getting ready for the rest of a Big Ten slate that will feature some tricky corners.
The good news? Quarterback Dante Moore has been downright elite through the first five games and has now been thoroughly tested by a top team. He’s thrown for 1,210 yards and 14 touchdowns, against just one interception. That’ll play.
3. Miami Hurricanes (5-0)
RESULT: 28-22 win at Florida State
Miami took advantage of just about every Florida State miscue on the road to make sure it was in complete control of the contest. The game was statistically pretty balanced through the first half, then the Hurricanes really pulled away before a late Seminoles surge.
That’s the biggest test for Miami for the foreseeable future. Up next is a bye week, then a game against a Louisville team that just lost for the first time this weekend. There isn’t a ranked opponent left on the schedule.
4. Ole Miss Rebels (5-0)
RESULT: BYE
Ole Miss hasn’t had the most challenging slate to date, but the biggest test so far — and maybe the rest of the way, potentially — is now in the rearview mirror. That was against LSU, and Ole Miss handled itself well in the 24-19 win.
Quarterback will be fascinating going forward as Trinidad Chambliss seems to have taken the job, though Austin Simmons is getting healthy again. Why mess with it if it isn’t broken? That’s a question for Lane Kiffin to potentially answer.
5. Oklahoma Sooners (5-0)

RESULT: 44-0 win vs. Kent State
Quarterback Michael Hawkins did everything asked of him in the final non-conference game for the Sooners, who will be playing without starter John Mateer for a few weeks. Hawkins was electric, going for 162 passing yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 33 yards and a score.
Now Oklahoma heads into the heart of its SEC slate, a slate that, entering this weekend, featured six ranked teams in the final seven games. Of course, with Texas losing this weekend and struggling to maintain its top 25 ranking, next week’s game has turned into a must-win for Oklahoma.
6. Texas A&M Aggies (5-0)
RESULT: 31-9 win vs. Mississippi State
The Aggies remained unbeaten with a convincing win over a team flirting with a top 25 ranking entering the weekend. Mississippi State just didn’t have the horses to hang with Texas A&M. It wasn’t the cleanest game for the Aggies, but it’s another win in league play. Those don’t come easily.

Now Texas A&M will play host to a Florida team that just knocked off Texas in the Swamp. Expect the Aggies to have their hands full offensively, as the Gators have been stout defensively when healthy.
7. Indiana Hoosiers (5-0)
RESULT: BYE
After a massive win over a top 25 Illinois team, Indiana had a much tougher fight against Iowa last week. This week it got a week off, which it will desperately need ahead of a monster showdown against Oregon, one of the top teams in the nation.
Indiana has gotten incredible play from starting quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who has thrown for 1,208 yards and 16 touchdowns against just one interception. He’ll be tested matching paces with Oregon’s Dante Moore, who has produced similar stats.
8. Alabama Crimson Tide (4-1)

RESULT: 30-14 win vs. Vanderbilt
Alabama had revenge on the mind against Vanderbilt after what happened a year ago. For most of the first three quarters it looked like the Commodores might be able to duplicate the feat. But the Crimson Tide pulled away late.
Quarterback Ty Simpson continues to play really well. He threw for 340 yards against the top 25 opponent on Saturday, finding the end zone twice. Now Alabama will head to Missouri.
9. Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-0)
RESULT: 35-11 win at Houston
Texas Tech is proving its hot start is no fluke, consistently dominating teams in the trenches. We first saw that against a top 25 Utah team a few weeks ago, and it remains evident with every game the Red Raiders play.
That’s now back-to-back road wins in hostile environments for Texas Tech, an impressive feat. There remain two games against ranked teams left on the schedule, but first up is a game with Kansas at home.
10. Georgia Bulldogs (4-1)
RESULT: 35-14 win vs. Kentucky
Georgia was looking to bounce back following a tough loss to Alabama. Kentucky was just what the doctor ordered. Gunner Stockton and company were too much for the Wildcats from a talent standpoint.
The defense really showed up in a big way for the Bulldogs, coming up with a pair of takeaways and limiting Kentucky to just 270 total yards. The Wildcats ran for only 45 yards in the contest, averaging 2.0 yards per carry. That kind of defensive performance will win some games.
