Auburn transfer WR Horatio Fields released from his Missouri contract
Former Auburn transfer receiver Horatio Fields, who signed with Missouri in early January, has been released from that contract, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Fields is likely bound for another SEC program, according to Nakos, with one particularly active conference rival trending for the services of the former Auburn wideout.
Fields will have one season of collegiate elibility wherever he lands next after qualifying for a medical redshirt in 2025, when he appeared in just four games for Auburn due to a broken foot that required season-ending surgery in late September. Despite the injury, Fields still finished among Auburn’s Top 5 receivers with 12 receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Fields transferred to Auburn from Wake Forest, where he caught 44 receptions for 517 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons between 2021-24. That includes a breakout redshirt junior year when he had 39 catches for 463 yards and four touchdowns for the Demon Deacons in 2024.
Fields signed with Wake Forest as a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle out of New Manchester (Douglasville, Ga.), where he was the No. 140 player out of Georgia, the No. 217 receiver in the class and No. 1,605 overall, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting media companies.

“Unfortunately he broke his foot, he’ll have to have surgery tomorrow and that’s a huge loss for us,” Freeze said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “He was kind of the leader of that receiver room, who knew every position and gave us flexibility to do a lot of things. A difficult loss.”
The 6-foot-2 Fields has provided a relatively young Auburn receiver room with much-needed experience through the first four games of the 2025 season, ranking third on the team with 12 catches for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Fields’ best game at Auburn came in Week 2 when he hauled in a season-high six receptions for 51 yards and an 11-yard touchdown from fellow transfer Jackson Arnold in a 42-3 rout of Ball State on Sept. 6.
