Week 2’s best pregame back-and-forth was between Dan Lanning and Mike Gundy. Kicked off by the Oklahoma State head coach, Gundy spoke about his players being able to play well there on the road, specifically new starting quarterback Zane Flores.

“Zane traveled with us some in conference,” Gundy said. “We took him on several games and I think we even took him to Texas a few years—was he here that year? I think we took him as a true freshman to Texas. He’s been in it. Now he’s not been the guy out there playin’.

“I feel like he’ll be fine in the stadiums that he’ll be competing in this year. I don’t know that that’ll affect him a lot. The maturity of getting experience and going and playing, would be more of a factor in my opinion. But we’ll see, everybody’s different.”

To no surprise, those comments did not sit too well in Eugene. So, just minutes before getting underway, Oregon decided to put Gundy on the Autzen Stadium Jumbotron. In fact, the exact quote was played out for the entire stadium to react to. A nice way for fans to get fired up before the two teams take the field.

Gundy also spoke about the difference in NIL between the two programs. Lanning responded on his own and based on Oregon’s actions, things may have gotten a little personal. The current scoreboard tells a similar story as the Ducks are showing no remorse.

Early in the third quarter, the score currently sits at 41-3. Dante Moore has been the better of the two quarterbacks, throwing for nearly 250 yards to this point with four touchdowns. And the stat line from Flores would tell you he is not handling the environment well, barely surpassing the 50-yard mark.

Whether or not Lanning decides to slow down, we will have to wait and see. Just based on the point spread heading in, this was not a game where much of a contest was expected. Oklahoma State hoped to prove a lot of people wrong but to this point, they have not found much success.

The Autzen Stadium operator potentially even has more ammo in his back pocket. Whether or not Gundy was being complimentary of the way Oregon operates, it’s a good way to fire up the Ducks. You know the fans inside the stadium would light up as well.
