While he has never been an on-field assistant at the college level, the 62-year old Poggi has served as a right-hand man figure for Jim Harbaugh with the Wolverines and has helped the team go 22-2 the last two seasons after a 2-4 finish the year before his return in 2020.
Poggi will be the replacement for Will Healy, who was fired October 23 after losing seven of the first eight games of his fourth season as the 49ers’ coach. Healy was 15-24 in his four seasons at Charlotte.
