Elite 2027 QB Jayce Johnson names top schools, sets commitment date

Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson is roughly 18 months away from signing to play college football, but he’s ready to announce his commitment.
On Tuesday, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he is down to five schools and will choose between them when he makes his decision on August 3. Among the remaining contenders are Florida State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Texas A&M.
He is coming off camp visits to both Tennessee and Florida State earlier this month, and both have made him feel like a top priority.
“Tennessee is a priority for me and my family, and they are most definitely making me feel like a priority,” Johnson told Volquest. “I give them a call every week, and we talk. I feel like that is the most that stands out about the relationship with Tennessee.”
The ‘Noles are a school that has been working hard on him as well, including bringing him in for a visit back in January and then again this summer.

“FSU is close to home, which is a plus, but what really keeps me going back is the culture,” Johnson told On3’s Chad Simmons in January. “I love that energy that everyone has there.”
Johnson finished with 1,799 yards passing, 318 yards rushing and 19 total touchdowns in 2024.
Johnson is one of the best 2027 prospects in the nation
The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 5 quarterback and the No. 6 recruit in Georgia.
On3 is higher on him than other services, tabbing him as the No. 2 QB in the country in that class.
Earlier this spring, he was one of the top performers at Overtime’s OT7 Golden Ticket 7on7 event, and On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire wrote this about him:
“2027 QB Jayce Johnson was slinging the ball all over the yard on Saturday afternoon. The 6-foot-3, 205-plus pound signal caller out of Lowndes (GA) showed all the physical tools to stand out in a big way on Day 1. The velocity and ability to get the ball up and out quickly allowed him to throw for eight touchdowns in three games. His ability to push the ball vertically as efficiently as he distributes the football underneath allowed his team to consistently move the ball down the field on Saturday. He had two interceptions that he wishes he could have back, but all in all, Johnson proved he was arguably the top quarterback to step on the field on Day 1.”
