ESPN ranks Top 24 teams with highest chance to make College Football Playoff after Week 10

Teams are running out of time to make their case to the College Football Playoff selection committee. On Monday, ESPN updated its rankings of the top 24 teams most likely to earn a spot in the CFP.

The CFP will look a bit different this year. While the five highest-ranked conference champions are still guaranteed bids, there are no automatic byes. Only the four highest-ranked teams in the CFP rankings will receive byes. In general, the playoff will follow a straight-seeding format.

With only four weeks remaining in the regular season, the CFP picture is clearer than ever. Look below to see which teams ESPN believes have the best odds of appearing in the College Football Playoff.

1. Indiana Hoosiers | 99% chance

Indiana retained its No. 1 spot in ESPN’s CFP odds this week after defeating Maryland in a 55-10 blowout on Saturday. The Hoosiers aren’t just beating their opponents, they’re dominating them.

Indiana is averaging 46.4 points per game this season, the most in the country. On Saturday, the Hoosiers amassed 588 total yards of offense. With no ranked opponents remaining on its regular season schedule, Indiana is poised to enter the postseason undefeated.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes | 99% chance

Ohio State isn’t taking its foot off the gas either this season. The Buckeyes improved to 9-0 with a 38-14 triumph over Penn State on Saturday. In the win, quarterback Julian Sayin was pinpoint accurate.

He completed 20-of-his-23 pass attempts for 316 yards and four touchdowns, without throwing an interception. If Sayin can continue to consistently find receiver Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate out wide, it’ll be difficult for any team to topple the Buckeyes.

3. Texas A&M Aggies | 96% chance

Texas A&M enjoyed a bye this past weekend after defeating in LSU 49-25 in Week 9. The Aggies’ performance ultimately led to LSU firing head coach Brian Kelly.

In the win, Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion was spectacular. He reeled in a touchdown pass, while also finding the end zone on a 79-yard punt return. It was Texas A&M’s first win at LSU since 1994.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide | 93% chance

Unlike the top three teams in ESPN’s CFP rankings, Alabama isn’t undefeated. However, the Crimson Tide haven’t shown any signs they plan on losing again. Alabama rested up this weekend after securing a narrow 29-22 triumph over South Carolina in Week 9.

As usual, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson shined in the win. He tallied 253 passing yards and two TDs against the Gamecocks, without throwing an interception. With each performance, Simpson is solidifying his position as a Heisman Trophy frontrunner.

5. Georgia Bulldogs | 86% chance

Win columns don’t discriminate. Georgia’s 24-20 win over Florida wasn’t exactly pretty, but it didn’t need to be. The Bulldogs showed off their grit, taking the lead with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter and forcing Florida to turn the ball over on downs.

The Gators didn’t have any answers for Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch. The USC transfer notched a team-high 112 receiving yards on 10 catches. For reference, Dillon Bell had the second-most receptions for UGA with only four.

6. Ole Miss Rebels | 78% chance

Since suffering its first loss of the season in Week 8 against Georgia, Ole Miss has won back-to-back games. On Saturday, the Rebels ran away with a 30-14 victory over South Carolina.

In the win, nobody outshined Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy, who tallied 167 rushing yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Lacy wasn’t the only impressive member of Ole Miss’ backfield. The Rebels finished the game with 258 rushing yards.

7. Oregon Ducks | 77% chance

Oregon had a bye this week, following its 21-7 triumph over Wisconsin in Week 9. It was far from the Ducks’ best performance of the season, but a win nonetheless.

Oregon doesn’t have an easy final stretch of the regular season. The Ducks will take on Iowa this week, and finish the regular season with back-to-back games against USC and Washington, both of which are currently ranked.

8. BYU Cougars | 74% chance

In the Big 12’s choppy waters, BYU has been a steady rock. The Cougars are still undefeated and ran away with a convincing 41-27 triumph over Iowa State in their latest outing.

In the win, BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier stole the show, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while running 49 yards and another score. The Cougars still have Texas Tech and Cincinnati ahead on their schedule, but ESPN seemingly likes their chances to reach the CFP.

9. Texas Longhorns | 54% chance

After Texas’ bumpy start to the season, the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff hopes looked dead in the water. However, Texas has refused to go away and ESPN believes the Longhorns are likely to appear in the playoff.

The Longhorns did wonders for their postseason stock on Saturday with a 34-31 win over Vanderbilt. Texas QB Arch Manning had a career performance, logging 328 passing yards and three TDs, without throwing an interception.

10. Texas Tech Red Raiders | 51% chance

Texas Tech is no longer ESPN’s favorite from the Big 12, but the Red Raiders are still firmly in the CFP race. On Saturday, Texas Tech blew out Kansas State 43-20. The Red Raiders have won their last two games by average margin of 32.5 points.

Texas Tech’s defense was suffocating in its win over Kansas State. The Red Raiders squeezed a whopping five turnovers out of the Wildcats. It was Texas Tech’s first win at Kansas State since 2008. Now, the Red Raiders have a chance to make the program’s first College Football Playoff appearance.

11. Oklahoma | 36% chance
12. Vanderbilt | 30% chance
13. Virginia | 29% chance
14. North Texas | 28% chance
15. James Madison | 28% chance
16. USF | 26% chance
17. Notre Dame | 24% chance
18. Georgia Tech | 23% chance
19. Louisville | 21% chance
20. Memphis | 21% chance
21. USC | 17% chance
