Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King was a full go at practice on Tuesday and is tracking to play this weekend against Clemson, sources tell On3. The situation will continue to be monitored throughout the week.

King sat out on Saturday as Georgia Tech blew out Gardner-Webb 59-12. The decision not to play King against the FCS opponent was a game-time decision following the Yellow Jackets’ Week 1 win at Colorado, where he was banged up.

“Looks good, feels good,” Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key said in his press conference on Tuesday. “We’ll make a determination this weekend.”

The Georgia Tech quarterback has repeatedly dealt with injuries, dating back to his 2021 leg injury at Texas A&M. It was a shoulder issue last season, which kept him sidelined for games against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

King has thrown for 6,678 yards and rushed for 1,630. He has thrown for 51 touchdowns and rushed for 25 in his career. Georgia Tech nearly knocked off Georgia in Athens last season, coming down to an eight-overtime loss.

“It’s one of those things that was right up until game time beforehand,” Key said on the radio this weekend. “He’d gone through all the pregame warmups and everything, but when you got something that could be completely healed in a matter of a short time, and if you do something else to it, now it’s four to six weeks. Look, I’m gonna listen to the doctors, I’m gonna do what they say when it comes to that because that’s the priority when it comes to our players.”

No. 12 Clemson enters Saturday 1-1, coming off a 27-16 win over Troy. The Tigers fell in Week 1 to LSU. Haynes King told On3 this summer that he believes Georgia Tech is ready to take the next step and compete for an ACC title, coming off a seven-win season.

That starts Saturday when Clemson visits Atlanta.

“We definitely have unfinished business,” King told On3 this summer. “ … I’m not the one to mainly focus on individual accolades or individual success. If your team’s having success, that stuff is going to come.”
