Heisman Trophy 2025 final voting revealed
Indiana‘s Fernando Mendoza was named the winner of the 2025 Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. It was a reasonably tight race, with Vanderbilt‘s Diego Pavia also pushing hard for college football’s top award.
After last year’s Heisman Trophy race was the closest finish for first place since 2009, this year’s was a little more clear cut. But even finalists Jeremiyah Love and Julian Sayin drew some votes and made things a little more interesting.
Three points are awarded for a first place vote, two for a second place vote, and one for third. The player with the most total points wins.
With that said, here’s how the Heisman Trophy voting broke down.
- Fernando Mendoza – 2,362 points (643 first place)
- Diego Pavia – 1,435 points (189)
- Jeremiyah Love – 719 points (46)
- Julian Sayin – 432 points (8)
Thursday night, the Heisman Trophy Trust announced the rest of the Top 10. Here is the full order for spots 5-10 in the voting. Total votes were announced Saturday.
- LB Jacob Rodriguez, Texas Tech – 295 (17)
- WR Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State – 84 (4)
- QB Gunner Stockton, Georgia – 43 (3)
- QB Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss – 23 (2)
- S Caleb Downs, Ohio State – 22 (2)
- QB Haynes King, Georgia Tech – 18 (2)
Fernando Mendoza emerged as the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy following the team’s spectacular late win over Penn State late in the season. Mendoza connected on a last-minute touchdown pass in the back of the end zone on a perfect throw, helping preserve the team’s perfect record.

He was excellent the rest of the year, too. Fernando Mendoza finished with 2,980 yards passing and 33 touchdowns, against six interceptions. He also ran for 240 yards and six scores.
Diego Pavia also made a run late in the year, though. Pavia had a monster showing against Kentucky, throwing for 484 yards and five scores, while rushing for another. A week later he ran for 165 yards and a score in a win over Tennessee.
The betting odds had pulled close to level between Pavia and Mendoza for the Heisman Trophy, but then Mendoza got to play in the Big Ten Championship Game. And it was a late deep shot there that sealed the deal and helped impress voters for the final stretch.
Now, among the 10 finalists, seven of the 10 will play in the playoffs. Not all will play in the first round.
