Heisman Trophy Odds: Ranking betting favorites in college football after Week 6

Week 6 has come and gone in college football, with the sport really starting to get into conference play after the first weekend of October. With that came another update to the odds for what’s still a very open race for the Heisman Trophy.
BetMGM has provided the latest odds for who could win the Heisman coming out of this weekend’s results. It represented some tightening in the race, with 17 players at (+3000) or better after 23 were (+3000) or better coming out of Week 5. That includes a quarterback who has regained the top spot as the favorite for the Heisman.
Here are those updated odds to win the Heisman Trophy per those at BetMGM:
Miami QB Carson Beck (+500 – was +900)
Coming out of Week 3, Beck was the Heisman favorite for a week at BetMGM at odds of (+700). Now, three weeks later, he has retaken the lead with his best odds of the season so far as (+500)
That’s with Beck leading Miami to a 28-22 win in a top-twenty conference and in-state matchup on the road against Florida State, being 20-27 (74.1%) for 241 yards and four touchdowns. From here now, with how he has played and a lot of their biggest games already won by The ‘U, Beck could coast to at worst being a finalist that’ll be in New York, although presently being the favorite at BetMGM.
Oregon QB Dante Moore (+700 – was +750)

Moore is no longer the favorite, as he had been the week prior at (+750), with Oregon on a bye this past weekend. His odds, per BetMGM, actually improved without taking the field, though, at (+700).
Moore has been one of the nation’s most efficient passers this season, posting 74.6% completion for 242 yards per game with 14 touchdowns to one interception. That pace, and if the Ducks can remain undefeated still, with another top-ten matchup upcoming this weekend in Eugene, should have him right in the running to be at the Heisman ceremony.
Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith (+800 – was +1000)
Smith has been hanging around in the top-ten of these odds since the start of the season. However, he has cut his number in half the past two weeks with the Buckeyes’ entering conference play, going from (+1600) to (+1000) after Week 5 to his best odds yet now for a tie in third at (+800) after Week 6.
Smith caught seven more passes for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a blowout win over Minnesota on Saturday, bringing his season totals to 35 catches for 463 yards, averaging 92.6 per game, and six touchdowns. He’s in the top-fifteen nationally in yards, yards per game, and catches while being tied for second in receiving scores, which is the kind of production from a receiver, especially on the top team in the country, that will have him in contention for the Heisman.
Alabama QB Ty Simpson (+800 – was +1000)
Simpson has seen a similar, if not almost exact, rise recently in his odds for the Heisman. That’s with his play in a pair of Top-20 wins to open conference play for ‘Bama, with him being 23-31 (74.2%) for 340 yards, two touchdowns, and his first interception of the year in a victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday.
As the Crimson Tide have turned around since their season-opening loss, as has Simpson’s case as a Heisman candidate, being one of the nation’s best passers at 70.3% completion for 295.6 passing yards per game with 13 touchdowns and the lone pick. That level of play, especially in the kind of games that Alabama will continue to be in, like in another Top-15 conference matchup this weekend, is why Simpson is trending how he is in this conversation.
Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza (+1300)

Mendoza was also briefly a Heisman favorite for a week, at least in part due to injury news elsewhere in the sport, at (+650) after Week 4. That was then adjusted a bit after Week 5, with the Hoosiers’ quarterback staying at (+1300) coming off a bye in Week 6.
Mendoza has been a great fit in Bloomington, completing 73% of his passes for 241.6 yards per game with 16 touchdowns and one interception. He may need another big stage to justify himself nationally, though, with this weekend providing just that kind of opportunity in a top-ten conference game up in Eugene.
Ohio State QB Julian Sayin (+1500 – was +1700)
Similar to his top target, Sayin also continues to trend up in these odds for the Heisman Trophy. He, at a nation-leading completion rate of 80.2% for 262.6 passing yards per game with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions, has him now all the way up to a tie for fifth here at (+1500).
Sayin is also improving as he plays more games too as the Buckeyes’ quarterback, as he had his best game yet being 23-27 (85.2%) for 326 yards and three touchdowns in that blowout of the Golden Gophers. That growth and development as he goes, along with being the quarterback of maybe the best team in the country, might suggest he stays right in this range as the season goes on until the ceremony come December.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss (+1500)
This one remains tricky in The ‘Sip. Chambliss has no doubt played like a Heisman hopeful in his three outings off the sideline for the Rebels, but will he continue to be the starter once Austin Simmons is back healthy for Ole Miss?
Again, Chambliss has earned these odds, tying for fifth at (+1500), by posting 406.3 total yards per game with six touchdowns overall and one interception in keeping the team undefeated through wins over Arkansas, Tulane, and LSU in Oxford. But, with him originally as their backup, will Lane Kiffin elect to go back to Simmons once he’s fully able, or could the Rebels eventually just stick with Chambliss as QB1?

Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt (+2000)

Leavitt had fallen behind in these odds since the season started. However, coming off a Top-25 win over TCU, Leavitt moved back up to (+2000) at BetMGM, which is where he remains this week but with that number now having him in a four-way tie for the sixth-best odds to win the Heisman.
In the 27-24 win over the Horned Frogs, Leavitt was 27-39 (69.2%) for a season-high of 291 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 62 yards and another score. Now, at 63.1% completion for 262.8 yards per game overall with 13 total touchdowns and four total turnovers, the Sun Devils’ quarterback is back in the conversation from out in Tempe.
Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed (+2000 – was +1500)
Reed has remained one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks, if not among one of the better players at the position in general, down in College Station. However, coming off the worst game of his season, he saw his odds take a hit as he’s down to (+2000) at BetMGM after having been at (+1500) since after Week 3.
While A&M remained undefeated in a 31-9 win over Mississippi State, Reed was just 13-23 (56.5%) for 180 yards, both of which were season lows, along with two touchdowns, plus rushing for another score, and an interception, which was his third-straight outing where he threw one. That resulted in a bit of a slide this week for the Aggies’ quarterback in Heisman odds.
Notre Dame QB CJ Carr (+2000 – was +2500)
Carr has impressed this fall starting as a redshirt freshman for the Fighting Irish. And, as his team has returned to the national conversation a bit with three straight wins, as has he when it comes to his odds to win the Heisman, which now sit at (+2000) at BetMGM.
Going 15-23 (65.2%) for 189 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Boise State, Carr is one of the better passers in the country statistically at 67.7% completion for 256 passing yards per game with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. But, like Notre Dame needs to keep winning to stay within playoff contention, Carr will need to keep playing that way to remain in consideration for the Heisman Trophy.
Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar (+2000)
Georgia Tech QB Haynes King (+2500)
Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia (+2500 – was +1500)
Missouri RB Ahmad Hardy (+2500)
Oklahoma QB John Mateer (+3000)
Georgia QB Gunner Stockton (+3000 – was +2000)
USC QB Jayden Maiava (+3000 – was +2000)
