Oklahoma State OT Markell Samuel to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Oklahoma State could lose several players to the portal this offseason, amidst the coaching change it went through earlier in the fall, which has since resulted in the hiring of North Texas’ Eric Morris. Now, news of the latest one is out in Stillwater.
OT Markell Samuel intends to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes from reporting by Matt Zenitz at CBS Sports.
Samuel will end up spending just one season at Oklahoma State. He only appeared in one game as well due to a foot injury, as he played in only the opener this fall against UT Martin.
Prior to this fall with the ‘Pokes, Samuel spent four seasons at Appalachian State since 2020. He redshirted after playing in one game in his first year, and went on to make 29 appearances, mainly at the tackle spots, on the offensive line, after previously playing defensive line when he arrived, for the Mountaineers. That includes 25 games, 15 of those being starts, in his final two seasons in Boone, namely that final year where, as a full-time starter, Samuel was honored as Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt.
After he entered the portal last offseason, Samuel made himself one of the top available tackles. He was rated as a Top 400 overall transfer and a Top 30 OT per On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players – making him a Top 10 addition last offseason for the Cowboys.

A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Samuel attended E.E. Smith High School. He ranked as a three-star prospect there in the 2020 recruiting cycle. That’s according to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Oklahoma State has seen several players exit already, whether in the portal window that opened for them at the time of their coaching change or who have already shared those intentions since the end of their season last weekend. Samuel is now included in the latter, as he’ll be available once the one-time window opens on January 2nd.
