Report: Lee Corso to attend Florida State-Miami game
Former ESPN icon Lee Corso is reportedly set to attend Florida State–Miami on October 4th in Tallahassee. The Tallahassee Democrat reported Corso will attend as a fan an alum of the school, where he’ll also participate in a reunion event.
“On the eve of the game Friday, Oct. 3, Corso, 90, also plans to attend a ‘Nugent’s Boys’ reunion of former Seminoles who played under football coach Tom Nugent from 1953-58,” Jim Henry wrote. “The reunion has been hosted over the years and decades by former FSU player (1957-59) and Tallahassee resident Bob Carnes. Carnes indicated this might be the final reunion for a group that has dwindled from more than 100 to less than 10 members due to age. Carnes, who has been in communication with Corso, said attendees help pay for the event’s dinner and Corso had contributed. Corso, 90, was unable to attend many of the reunions due to his schedule with ESPN.”
The report revealed that Florida State is expected to honor Corso in some capacity during the game. However, those details were not initially shared nor finalized.
Corso made TV history during his final appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay to kick off the season. The final show averaged around 3.5 million viewers across the networks. It was the most-watched episode in the show’s history.

Ahead of that final appearance, former College GameDay host Chris Fowler appeared on Get Up. The current play-by-play man he reflected on Corso’s legacy ahead of his final show.
“It’s going to be a white-knuckle ride for me just to get through it,” Chris Fowler said. “And a lot of viewers that I’ve heard from watching it. Yeah, 25 years doing the show together. 35 years knowing the man. He’s one of one. We’ll never see another one like him, and I think the way that he has brought generations of people into the sport through his passion — to mean, he’s first and foremost a coach. He coached me when I was a young coach.
“He certainly coached Kirk Herbstreit. He’s coached Desmond [Howard]. He’s been, I think, a great presence in the lives of all of us and for so many viewers who feel like he’s their grandpa or he’s the guy who got them into the sport.”
