Report: SMU adding Oklahoma coach Calvin Thibodeaux
The SMU Mustangs are rebuilding after the departure of Sonny Dykes and return of Rhett Lashlee to Dallas. Lashlee has now filled his defensive line assistant role with longtime Oklahoma DL coach Calvin Thibodeaux, according to Pete Thamel.
Thiboeaux joined the Sooners staff in 2016 after stints at Kansas, Tulsa and Dartmouth. In 2010, the defensive line coach spent a season at Navarro Junior College. He got his coaching start at Houston as a defensive line graduate assistant.
Calvin Thibodeaux is a former D-I defensive lineman himself. He went to the University of Oklahoma from 2002-2006. He finished his OU career with 90 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.
During his time with the Sooners, Thibodeaux earned a place in Rivals’ top-25 recruiters of the year twice. SMU should benefit from the new DL coach’s strong recruiting ties all across the Lone Star State.
On Lincoln Riley’s OU staff, Thibodeaux made an annual salary of $435,000.
