The Texas Longhorns came to play early in Saturday’s Red River Rivalry vs. the Oklahoma Sooners.

Former Texas star and current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger waisted no time chiming in on the action with a simple message geared toward head coach Steve Sarkisian, in his first year leading the program.

Former Texas Longhorns QB praises Sark in hot start vs. rival

Sarkisian and the Longhorns literally couldn’t have started the game faster, boasting a 14-0 lead in within the first four minutes of the third quarter.

Just two minutes into the second quarter, Texas leads the sooners 28-14 in a game that feels like will put up more than 100 points when it’s all said and done.

Thompson and Moore lead Texas Longhorns fast start

Casey Thompson received immense praise prior to the Red River Showdown. So far, so good — he’s on absolute fire to start today’s game against Oklahoma.

After throwing a touchdown on the first play of the game, Thompson connected with Joshua Moore for two touchdowns in the first quarter.

The first took place on 1st & Goal, where Thompson lofted up a beautiful throw that fell elegantly into Moore’s hands. The ten-yard touchdown extended Texas’ lead, and putting them back up by two scores.

The touchdown was set up by a turnover forced by the Texas Longhorns defense. After Oklahoma started to make a mini-comeback, the Texas defense intercepted Spencer Rattler — setting up their offense.

The touchdown was Moore’s first of the season, something he expected to catch much sooner. However, he’ll take scoring on this stage as a consolation prize.

But they weren’t done.

Afterwards, Texas’ defense got the ball back for Thompson again before the end of the first quarter. This time, he found Moore with the deep-ball — connecting on a 48-yard bomb for their second consecutive touchdown.

This time, Moore completely blew-by the Sooners secondary — getting wide open for a game-breaking touchdown. The Texas Longhorns already have the opportunity to put this one out of reach early.

Casey Thompson has been in complete control to begin the game. With Oklahoma on the ropes, the Longhorns quarterback has a chance to have a career day after a career start.

The energy is palpable, and Thompson is on fire. We’ll see if he can keep it up as the Red River Showdown rolls on. If so, the Texas Longhorns will emerge victorious.
