With the 2023 college football season a little more than three months away, Vegas Insider has released updated odds for the national championship. There is no surprise at the top as Georgia is the projected favorite to threepeat after winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

The Bulldogs finished with an unblemished 15-0 record this past season and rolled past TCU in the championship for a 65-7 victory. However, they have to replace several key pieces after quarterback Stetson Bennett, defensive lineman Jalen Carter, linebacker Nolan Smith and others are on to NFL careers.

After Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State are tied for the second-best odds to win the national championship. The Buckeyes nearly defeated the Bulldogs in a College Football Playoff Semifinal this past season but lost after missing a potential game-winning field goal with three seconds to play. Alabama failed to make the CFP for just the second time under Nick Saban after suffering a pair of losses in the regular season.

After that, Michigan, USC and LSU round out the top six. You can view the rest of the teams in the top 20 of the college football national championship odds below.

More on the College Football Playoff National Championship, potential contenders

The CFP national championship is set to take place on Jan. 8, 2024 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Before that, the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl will serve as the two College Football Playoff semifinal games.

The SEC leads all conferences with five teams among the top 20 in odds to win the national championship. The Big Ten and Pac-12 are right behind them with four apiece, while the Big 12 and ACC both have three teams.

USC is the first team outside of the Big Ten or SEC and brings back last year’s Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. The Trojans also brought in 14 transfer to rank No. 1 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings as they hope to reach the CFP in just the second season under coach Lincoln Riley.

Florida State comes in with the best odds in the ACC just ahead of Clemson. The Seminoles enjoyed their first 10-win season since 2016 this past season and return starting quarterback Jordan Travis as well as leading receiver Johnny Wilson and leading rusher Trey Benson. Clemson, on the other hand, is ready to roll with Cade Klubnik at quarterback after last year’s starter DJ Uiagalelei transferred.

It’s obviously still early with no football having been played yet, so these odds are bound to change drastically once we get into the season. But for now, these are the teams that enter 2023 with expectations of taking home a national championship trophy.
