Earlier in the college football season, Oklahoma had dreams of making it to the College Football Playoff. A victory in the Red River Rivalry put them in prime positions to compete for the Big 12 title. However, the Sooners faltered down the stretch, and lost two games to keep them out of position.
Now, they’ll look to cap off their final season in the Big 12 with a bowl victory. Before their hectic move to the SEC, the Sooners will be hoping get a win in the Alamo Bowl.
One player who will notably be missing from Oklahoma is quarterback Dillon Gabriel. After throwing for 30 touchdowns for the Sooners in 2023, Gabriel decided to transfer to the Oregon Ducks for 2024, and while he’s leaving on seemingly good terms, he won’t risk injury playing one final game for the Sooners.

However, Gabriel isn’t the only player Oklahoma lost to the transfer portal. Defensive backs DJ Graham II and Key Lawrence, running backs Tawee Walker, Marcus Majors and Dylan Smothers, tight end Jason Llewelyn, defensive lineman Reggie Grimes and offensive lineman Cayden Green are among those who chose to leave the Sooners over the last couple of weeks.
On the other side, Arizona has lost players like backup quarterback Jayden de Laura among others to the portal, but nowhere nearly as much as Oklahoma. Still, it won’t be a walk in the park for either team.
The Wildcats shocked many with their resurgence in 2023, amassing a 9-3 record on the season. It was quarterback Noah Fifita who led the way for Arizona, passing for 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions on the season.
So who will be able to cap 2023 off with a win in the Alamo Bowl? Either way, it should be an exhilarating game between Arizona and Oklahoma on Thursday.
