nfl draft third pick betting

It’s NFL Draft season and we’re all fascinated with the speculation on who may go with the first pick. Or the second. But who could go No. 3?

It might seem like an innocuous number. But it’s not. The Texans took Will Anderson at No. 3 last year and Anderson was NFL defensive rookie of the year. Other famous No. 3’s in past drafts include Barry Sanders, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Matt Ryan.

The New England Patriots own the third pick. They need some offensive talent, possibly quarterback. But with the NFL Combine finishing up in Indianapolis, who knows how the Patriots will approach this pick. DraftKing Sportsbook established some odds for No. 3 of the NFL Draft. Let’s take a look.

Jayden Daniels QB LSU +140

The reigning Heisman winner from LSU may only be the third best quarterback available in this NFL Draft. But trust us, that’s not a bad spot to be in.

Daniels, who could be the best playmaker, opted not to work out at the combine or even get weighed and measured. He will do all that at his pro day. Got to keep the drama going.

Drake Maye QB North Carolina +150

Ken Ruinard-USA TODAY Sports

Currently, the odds suggest that Maye will head to Washington. The Commanders own the No. 2 pick. Maye is one of those big-bodied quarterbacks with a big arm.

Scouts wonder if he leans too much into his gunslinger rep, making too many poor decisions. Maye did not work out at the combine. He’ll get it done at his pro day.

Marvin Harrison Jr WR Ohio State +225

Harrison probably is the top receiver in a NFL Draft class that is loaded with them. The Patriots may be looking at positions other than quarterback at No. 3.

The former Buckeye chose not to work out in Indy, so there are still a few unanswered questions.

J.J. McCarthy QB Michigan +800

McCarthy is a big riser in the draft. And he did interview with New England, so maybe he breaks into the top trio of quarterbacks.

He lacks great size, but he wins games. It is more likely he ends up somewhere between picks six and 15.

Bo Nix QB Oregon +3500

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

No. 3 probably is too high for Hix, the Oregon star. He is the rare five-year college starter, so he oozes experience.

He is athletic and has good arm strength. But remember this is a draft stacked with elite arms.

Joe Alt OL Notre Dame +4000

Alt seems to be the most favored offensive lineman available in the NFL Draft. But will the Patriots go for an offensive tackle when they need the skilled guys.

He certainly has the bloodlines to succeed at the pro level. His dad, John Alt, was a Pro Bowl tackle and his brother, Mark Alt, plays in the NHL.

Michael Penix QB Washington +5000

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Like Hix, Penix oozes experience and knows how to win games. He will be 24 his rookie season.

Teams will want to know whether his knees are OK. Those sorts of injuries wiped out two of his seasons.

Caleb Williams QB USC +5000

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Williams probably will be the No. 1 pick of the NFL Draft. So it would be a huge surprise and draft story if he slips to No. 3.

The former USC star did not work out at the combine, but he did meet with teams. He will do his throwing at his pro day.

Olu Fashanu OL Penn State +5000

Again, will the Patriots desire an offensive lineman with the third choice of the NFL Draft? And if they do, is this former Nittany Lion the right pick?

He has excellent size and started for two seasons at Penn State.

Malik Nabers WR LSU +6000

Scouts think Nabers will be the next great LSU receiver to dominate in the NFL, following recent stars Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase.

He will work out at his pro day after choosing not to do so at the combine.

Laiatu Latu EDGE UCLA +6000

Latu was one of the best pass rushers in college football last fall. And NFL teams use lofty draft picks for quarterbacks and the defenders who chase them.

Latu did participate in the combine, running a 4.64 time in the 40, calling it a surreal moment.

Jared Verse EDGE Florida State +6000

Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

It is good to see some defenders mentioned for the No. 3 spot. There is some talk that the top 10 will all be offensive players.

Verse is an ace pass rusher. But most mocks list him outside the top 10.

Dallas Turner EDGE Alabama +6000

Turner enjoyed a monster combine. He ran a 4.46, the fastest among all edge rushers.

The Cardinals reportedly love the guy. They select fourth. But this is about the third pick, so who knows whether New England goes defense.

Brock Bowers TE Georgia +6000

Bowers is the best tight end in the NFL Draft. The question is how high he will go. But third pick probably is way too high.

Most mocks list Bowers within the top 15.

Best of rest for NFL Draft No. 3

Xavier Worthy WR Texas +10000
JC Latham OT Alabama +10000
Cooper DeJean DB Iowa +10000
Taliese Fuaga OT Oregon State +10000
Spencer Rattler OT South Carolina +10000
Rome Odunze WR Washington +10000
Jer ‘Zhan Newton DL Illinois +15000
Kool-Aid McKinstry CB Alabama +20000
Jeremiah Trotter LB Clemson +30000
Javon Bullard DB Georgia +30000
Blake Corum RB Michigan +30000

This will all be answered April 25, when the NFL Draft goes live from Detroit.
