Michigan football landed a pivotal commitment from Gonzaga (D.C.) Rivals five-star EDGE Carter Meadows on June 29, giving head coach Sherrone Moore his biggest win of the 2026 recruiting cycle.

Wolverines basketball head coach Dusty May might also be interested in the 6-foot-6.5, 225-pounder after seeing the dunk he threw down on Friday.

Competing on the EYBL circuit in South Carolina this weekend, Meadows caught a pass in transition, left his feet and threw down a left-handed hammer over a defender — who he let hear all about it after:

Meadows has the traits of a freak athlete and continues to see his stock rise ahead of his senior season on the gridiron. He ranks as the No. 6 overall football prospect in the Rivals300 and the No. 36 prospect in the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.

He chose Michigan over Ohio State, Penn State and South Carolina last month and remains locked in with the Big Ten program.

“I think it was a mix of on the field, off the field things. When I went up there for my OV the culture I could feel in the building was different and I want to be part of it,” Meadows told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong about his decision.

“I think their history of winning and tradition and upholding their standard of excellences in all walks of life, on the field, off the field that’s what makes it special.”

Carter Meadows Scouting Summary

Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power previously wrote this of Meadows as a football prospect, while also noting his ability on the hardwood:

“Rangy EDGE prospect with a rare combination of frame and movement skills. One of the most physically impressive prospects in the 2026 cycle. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 225 pounds as a junior. Has vines for arms that measure around 35 inches to go with large hands. Could easily be a 280-pounder before it’s all said and done. Pairs the great frame with impressive functional athleticism A fluid, flexible athlete who has excellent bend. Has the natural tools to develop into a dangerous pass rusher down the line. Length pairs with good play strength to result in an effective edge setter. Also shows his athleticism in tracking down plays in pursuit. Doubles as a good high school basketball player while playing top competition on the hardwood. Will need to continue progressing as a pass rusher while upping his production. Pure physical upside is among the highest in the 2026 cycle.”
