Stanford lands commitment from 2026 TE Marcus Monroe

On Saturday, August 2nd, Stanford football landed a commitment from 2026 tight end Marcus Monroe out of North Raleigh Christian High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Monroe was offered by Stanford a day earlier, making it clear that Stanford is without a doubt the place he wants to be.
In addition to Stanford, Monroe also held offers from Bethune-Cookman, Campbell, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Georgia Southern, Liberty, and UAB. Only Cincinnati is also a power conference program, making it a pretty easy decision for Monroe to choose the Cardinal.
Listed at 6’4”, 211 pounds, Monroe has good hands and good footwork. He has plenty of experience playing wide receiver, so he’s more cut out of the cloth of being a receiving tight end as opposed to a blocking tight end. He knows how to make one handed catches and bring the ball in when he’s in traffic while also having a good presence of mind in the end zone.
It doesn’t look like he played against the toughest of competition, so he’s going to have to prove that he can get it done against Division 1 talent, but apart from that there’s a lot to like with him. He is used to being the go-to guy on his team, so he’s comfortable taking a pounding and taking on quite a load.
Even though he isn’t rated by Rivals and doesn’t have much of an offers list, there’s reason for Stanford to be excited about getting Marcus Monroe. You can never have too many tight ends and given his experience at wide receiver, there’s also a chance that he could spend some time at that spot should they ever get thin there. At a minimum, this is a depth addition and depth is something that is always welcomed.
