Georgia Tech picked first in preseason ACC Coaches Poll
Georgia Tech’s preseason of high expectations continued on Thursday afternoon as the Jackets were picked atop the ACC by the league’s coaches in preseason voting.
Tech narrowly edged out North Carolina in the voting, finishing with 237 points and seven first-place votes, one ahead of the Tar Heels in both categories. Rounding out he top five were Florida State with 221 points (one first-place vote), Louisville with 196 points and Clemson with 185 points (two first-place votes).
Georgia Tech won the ACC regular-season title last season with a 19-11 mark in conference play and finished with an overall record of 41-19 as they were knocked out in the regional round in Oxford by host Ole Miss in longtime head coach Danny Hall’s final season on The Flats.
James Ramsey enters his first season at the helm this spring with a Jackets’ team that have been picked in the top five in three separate preseason polls, including No. 2 by Perfect Game, No. 4 by Baseball America and No. 5 by D1 Baseball.
Georgia Tech returns 2025 All-ACC First-Team selections Drew Burress and Alex Hernandez (Hernandez was also picked as the ACC Freshman of the Year) as well as Second-Team All-ACC picks Vahn Lackey and Mason Patel. Caleb Daniel returns as well after being named to the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2025.
Along with those key returnees are several more players with starting experience in the lineup and on the pitching staff to go with a five-member transfer class and another impressive group of incoming freshman via the recruiting trail.
Georgia Tech opens the 2026 season on Friday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at Mac Nease Park at Russ Chandler Stadium when the Jackets host Bowling Green in the first of a three-game series that weekend.
