On Thursday, Texas Tech Men’s Basketball head coach Grant McCasland met with the media to discuss the upcoming game vs No. 3 Duke.

He also gave an update on big man Luke Bamgboye who left the previous game vs Northern Colorado with an injury.

“Yeah, I don’t have anything. As of right now I don’t anticipate him playing in this game against Duke but I don’t think – hopefully it’s nothing significant that we’ll lose him for the year. I think we’re at a point we’re trying to evaluate it and we’ll get some results back but I would not anticipate him playing in this Duke game.”

McCasland calls out lack of effort defensively

Texas Tech has given up at least 90 points in back-to-back games vs Arkansas and Northern Colorado. McCasland knows that won’t get it done in the Big 12, and he’s looking for guys who will give effort on the defensive side of the ball.

“Yeah well, we had a good practice today. The ownership in regards to our team, I think we’re growing in that area. It was obvious that we had some significant breakdowns and that’s where as a coach you’ve got to start deciding if those breakdowns become so consistent that you need to change personnel and give other guys a try.

I thought we’ve tried to build this ramp up knowing that we’ve had limited time and trying to go from game to game and some of it’s game planning and some of it’s practice habits. And we’ve seen positive results from our practices, and so I was a little shocked in regards to what we saw against Northern Colorado and some of the breakdowns and some of it was effort. And that’s where we’re not going to tolerate it. So felt like effort was better, better communication. We just got to keep making improvements. This team’s got the right pieces, we just got to make sure that we’re we’re playing with an edge.”
