Ross Hodge provides update on Jackson Fields

There still hasn’t been a final decision made on forward Jackson Fields but it is trending in a certain direction according to head coach Ross Hodge.

Fields, 6-foot-8, 210-pounds, has appeared in only nine games this season averaging 4.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He has been recovering from off-season wrist surgery and hasn’t appeared in a contest since the Houston game.

Previously Hodge had discussed the coaching staff and Fields considering potentially applying for a medical redshirt given the fact that he was still working his way back on the floor.

And while that still hasn’t been fully determined it appears a likely outcome as it doesn’t do any good without him being 100-percent on the floor.

“We haven’t made a final call on it but all signs are pointing in that direction,” Hodge said.

Fields wasn’t cleared until very late and it impacted a number of things such as his grip strength and ability to lift weights. Which has caused this option to be explored.

“A coaches’ job and a medical staff, their job is to evaluate that and put the student athletes in the best position long term for their health as well,” he said.
