Counting down the Alabama roster three players at a time. Next up for the 2023 series: wide receivers Jalen Hale and Kobe Prentice and tight end CJ Dippre.

82 WR Jalen Hale

2022: Wrapped up four-year career at Longview (Tex.) High School by catching 45 passes for 936 yards and 14 touchdowns. On the prep level, Hale amassed 141 receptions for 2,953 yards and 41 touchdowns. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Hale checked in as the No. 7 wide receiver prospect for the 2023 recruiting cycle. Enrolled at Alabama in January and took part in spring drills.

Of note: Came on in the first quarter of the A-Day game to work at the Z position for the Crimson team. On four targets, Hale produced three receptions for 27 yards. Long grab of 23 yards came on an over route in the second quarter. The completion, which came off the right hand of Dylan Lonergan, covered 20 yards in the air, with the final seven coming after Hale made safety Brayson Hubbard miss in the open field. While UA returns quality options on the outside, Hale possesses a combination of talent and polish that will put him in the mix for a rotational role as early as this season.

Here’s what we wrote about Hale at the time of his signing in December: “Polish, length and production sum up Hale, whose physical attributes bring to mind Devonta Smith. Worked both outside and inside in high school, so should be able to adapt quickly to multiple spots. Long strider who gets to top speed quickly and can win in high point situations on a consistent basis.”

81 TE CJ Dippre

2022: As a sophomore at Maryland, Dippre caught 30 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. Recorded multiple receptions in 11 of the 12 games in which he appeared. Also posted two solo tackles while covering punts in the Terrapins’ 34-27 win over SMU. Transferred to Alabama in January and participated in spring drills.

Of note: As expected, Dippre took his place as TE1 in the spring. In the A-Day game, the junior caught one pass for six yards. Working both in line and off the ball, Dippre held up well in the run game and pass protection, where he was asked to pick up the likes of Quandarrius Robinson in one-on-one situations. At the close of spring drills, Dippre was a recipient of the Jerry Duncan “I Like To Practice” Award. Presence in check down game will prove beneficial to first-year starter at quarterback. A reasonable over/under for receptions by Dippre in 2023 would be 30.5.

80 WR Kobe Prentice

2022: As a true freshman, Prentice appeared in all 13 games, making three starts. Totaled 31 receptions for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Caught team-high nine passes in loss at Tennessee.

Of note: Competition between Prentice and Isaiah Bond for starting honors in the slot carried over into the spring. In the A-Day game, Prentice worked alongside Jermaine Burton for the White team offense. Prentice, another recipient of the Jerry Duncan “I Like To Practice” Award, finished the scrimmage with three receptions for 27 yards. Explosive play potential both in the vertical and quick games will have the sophomore in play from the outset of the upcoming season. Separation at the spot will hinge on dependability in the way of catch consistency. Didn’t see him back deep on kickoffs or punts in the spring game, but Prentice’s skill set projects to the return game as well.
