Five-star plus+ wide receiver Cam Coleman of Phenix City (Ala.) Central signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The Coleman File

Position: Wide receiver

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 185 pounds

Notable trait/Auburn fit: Coleman is an all-around dominating receiver. He has the length, elite ball skills, can win 50/50 balls, and can run away from defenders.

On3 Industry Ranking: (98.69) No. 4 overall, No. 2 WR, No. 1 in Alabama

Commitment date: Dec. 1, 2023

Chose Auburn over: Flipped from Texas A&M, Florida State, Georgia

Time of enrollment: January

Notable: Coleman shocked many when he committed to Texas A&M on July 4. Auburn was not overly surprised and knew it would have to play the long game with him. The firing of Jimbo Fisher and Dameyune Craig at A&m ultimately was the turning point, but Coleman was still visiting and heavily communicating with Auburn all along.

Quoteworthy: “He’s (Freeze) doing something special, and only time will tell. Y’all will have to see. We’re going to keep going and keep searching for guys. Coach Freeze is a very good guy, and he never stopped recruiting me throughout the whole process. He just stayed on me since Day 1 when he got hired.”

Breakdown

— Dominant. Coleman is a game-changer, simply put. Put him in the game and he will find a way to make a play that likely changes the course of the game.

— Coleman garners safety attention. He can affect where a defense aligns its safety. Auburn has not had someone with that prowess at receiver in a while. He warrants attention and makes a play caller’s job easier.

— To be completely honest, Auburn has not had a skillset like Coleman in my lifetime, but Hugh Freeze has. DK Metcalf and AJ Brown are guys that went on to be successful in the pros, but Coleman is most like Laquon Treadwell. He is long, he wins 50/50 balls at a high rate, he can make plays in space, too. This is the comparison with a former Freeze receiver.

SEC readiness

Coleman is ready. He enters college with a unique and elite skillset that you can’t find just anywhere. Phsycally, he is ready. Mentally, he seems to be prepared, and he will be able to contribute in year one–make that game one.
