Time of enrollment at Auburn: January.

Notable: Brown previously committed to Auburn coach Hugh Freeze when Freeze was at Liberty … Brown led his team to a 13-0 record in 2022. In the championship game, he was 23-of-28 passing for 268 yards. … Trent Dilfer, Brown’s coach at Lipscomb Academy, was named UAB head coach a few weeks ago.

Quoteworthy: “I know these coaches are amazing, and not just as coaches, but people as well. Coach Freeze is super authentic. Coach (Kent) Austin is my guy. He’s been with me throughout this whole process at Liberty and now at Auburn.”

The Brown File

Breakdown from Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston:

  • Brown is tall and skinny. He will have to add some weight to his lanky 6-foot-4 frame.
  • His arm strength is good, not great. The shorter/intermediate throws don’t have elite zip. He gets it there, but the velocity needs to improve.
  • He has some gamesmanship about him. He’s good at giving play fakes and can run well when the opportunity presents itself. He has very low intentions of ever pulling down and running, but somewhat capable if he must.

SEC readiness

Brown is a developmental quarterback who will serve as a depth piece early on. He is not ready to compete to be a starting quarterback in the SEC West.

There are plenty of tools to like, especially his demeanor and game management skills. Freeze, Montgomery and Austin will have a big frame and a good offensive mind to work with in Brown.
