Top-100 recruit Jamonta Waller, who is ranked the No. 7 edge rusher in the country, has flipped his commitment from Florida to Auburn football.

Waller announced his decision Saturday on social media.

The four-star recruit from Picayune (Miss.) Memorial had been committed to the Gators since June. Auburn, however, continued to heavily recruit him and got him on campus twice this season. Waller made unofficial visits to the Plains for the Tigers’ games against Georgia and Ole Miss. He also took an official visit June 2-4.

“They’ve just stayed in touch with me and I feel like the coaches love me,” Waller said. “Coach (Ron) Roberts calls me daily and I hear from his whole staff constantly whether its messages or phone calls. They tell me how of a need I am for their defense which is an amazing feeling.”

Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett is the lead recruiter for Waller. Hugh Freeze and defensive coordinator Ron Roberts also are heavily involved.

“Auburn sent every coach at me and all of them are hitting me up every morning to make sure they stay in contact for sure,” Waller told On3’s Sam Spiegelman. “It’s a great feeling when they show they’re interested in you.

“Hugh Freeze, it doesn’t get any more real than that. He’s a cool dude. He’s a good person and wants the best for you. And (Roberts) is a great coach. He always hits me up. Never disappears on me. He always tries to give me advice. He’s always sending me videos of moves that I can use — stuff like that. Always touching base with me.”

Waller the latest SEC flip for Auburn

Waller is the third recruitment in the ’24 class to flip his commitment to Auburn. The Tigers also flipped the commitments of five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick (Georgia) and five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson (Alabama).

Waller is the 17th commitment in Auburn’s 24 class and fourth linebacker. The Tigers also have commitments from Riddick, four-star Joseph Phillips and three-star D’Angelo Barber.

The On3 Industry Ranking, which is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, ranks Waller the No. 78 overall recruit in the country and No. 2 in Mississippi. He recently was named 6A Mr. Football in the state.

In 10 games this season, he has 56 tackles, including 31 solos, 19 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 21 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a blocked punt.
