Could Florida Gators 2025 QB commit Austin Simmons reclassify to 2023?
MOORE HAVEN, FLORIDA — It’s the hottest topic with regards to Florida Gators football recruiting right now: Will Austin Simmons, the 2025 4-star Gators quarterback commit, reclassify to 2023 and enroll at Florida this summer?
He told Gators Online on Thursday night he didn’t know the answer yet to that question.
“So as of right now, I’m still 2025, playing at Moore Haven Junior/Senior High School,” Simmons said. “And as of right now, I’m still thinking about going, talking to my family about it, still trying to figure out the pros and cons of graduating that early.”

If Simmons is going to make the switch, it’ll have to happen soon.
“You can’t drag it all the way like that. Honestly, I don’t know yet. That’s what my dad’s really telling me. So, I’m thinking long and hard about this, day and night. And my dad’s just going to tell me when I need to make a decision by.”
What are some of the pros of reclassifying?
“Honestly, thinking about it, I want to enjoy my last two years of high school football, high school baseball. But I’m also like thinking about it from a realistic standpoint, jumping two years can probably be a great decision for me. I can really get developed at such a high level,” Simmons said.

Things to know about Austin Simmons …
-He’s listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds. But he’s actually closer to 6-3.
-He’s a lefty.
-Right now, Simmons is the No. 4 quarterback and No. 72 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
-He transferred to Moore Haven earlier this year from Pahokee (Fla.).
-Simmons committed to the Gators in April. He also claimed offers from programs such as Florida State, Miami and Penn State.
-He already has nearly 50 college credits.
