There is no question that five-star quarterback commit DJ Lagway has the potential to turn around the entire University of Florida Gators football program. As the time to sign on the dotted line inches closer, Gator fans are salivating at Lagway’s potential to step in and lead Florida back to SEC and national prominence.

Billy Napier, Ryan O’Hara, Joe Hamilton and the rest of the Florida staff prioritized Lagway early on, causing the Texas gunslinger to choose Florida over Clemson, Texas A&M and USC.

“I have a great relationship with the entire Florida staff,” Lagway told On3’s Sam Spiegelman after his commitment. “I talk to Coach Joe (Hamilton) all the time, four or five times a week. We have a good relationship and I can talk to him about stuff off the field and I’m comfortable with those guys.”

The 6-foot-2.5, 230-pound quarterback could step on the college football field today and look in place. The No. 2 ranked quarterback in the 2024 class, Lagway is the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 4 prospect in Texas.

As the pocket collapses, Lagway has no problems making something out of nothing. His arm strength continues to be a key part of his game, as his velocity remains a strong suit in his game.

Check out his spring ball highlights below, where the Florida commit can be seen throwing off-platform, uncorking 40+ yard passes on the run and delivering strikes with ease.

On3 Scouting Profile for the Gators prized quarterback commit

“Strong-armed quarterback prospect who possesses a thicker build with solid measurables for the position. Checked in at 6-foot-2.3 and 225 pounds during the camp circuit prior to his junior season. Has the arm strength to make throws at every level of the field, including ones from the far hash. Efficient with his movements in the pocket and comfortable working outside the pocket. Arm talent shines when forced to throw from multiple arm slots or off-platform. Will need to continue progressing with his accuracy as a passer – completed 55 percent of his passes as a sophomore at under 7 yards per attempt. A touted two-sport athlete who has also received multiple Power Five offers as a baseball player.”
