Following Monday’s commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Fletcher Westphal of Leesburg (Va.) Tuscarora, the Florida Gators sit at No. 3 in the On3 recruiting team rankings.

They didn’t move up or down with this verbal.

The Gators are in good company at the top. Georgia, the two-time defending national champion, is No. 1, followed by Ohio State.

Florida now has 18 verbals. That includes two 5-stars and 11 4-stars in the On3 Industry Rankings. The Gators have an average commit rating of 92.453. The 5-stars are safety Xavier Filsaime and quarterback DJ Lagway, both from Texas.

Westphal, who is listed 6-foot-7.5, 295 pounds, is the No. 19 offensive tackle in the country for the On3 Consensus. He checks in as the No. 5 recruit in the state of Virginia and is No. 252 nationally. Westphal holds a 90.57 On3 Consensus rating and a 90 rating from On3.

He chose Florida over Arkansas and Clemson, in that order.

Florida’s commitment list is so stout, 10 Gator commits have higher rankings/ratings than Westphal in the the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I like what is being built at Florida under Coach Napier,” Westphal told Gators Online. “During my recruitment, I never doubted being a top recruit for them.”

Westphal becomes the fourth offensive lineman on the Gators’ commit list. The other linemen committed are 3-star tackle Marcus Mascoll of Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett, 3-star tackle/guard Mike Williams of Baltimore (Md.) Charles Herbert Flowers and 3-star tackle/guard Noel Portnjagin of Germany. All three of those players committed to Florida in June.

Westphal praised the Gators’ two offensive line coaches, Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton.

“They are the full package when it comes to coaching with their personal player experience, NFL experience and years of coaching experience,” Westphal said. “I could learn a lot from them both. Plus it gives the (O-Line) more reps in practice because they can divide and conquer.”

Ten players committed to the Gators in June. (Complete commitment list HERE) Midway through that month, Florida sat well outside the top 10 of the recruiting team rankings. Now, the Gators are solidly in the top five and remain very much in contention with several more high-quality targets.
