When speaking with Gators Online last week, quarterback Marcus Stokes said he was unable to attend tonight’s Friday Night Lights event. His schedule was already jam-packed at the time.

However, the Sunshine State native ultimately did some rearranging and made it happen. He proved his worth by showcasing impressive accuracy and touch down the field but was also in town to assist in recruiting.

Was there one Gators target he prioritized the most this evening?

“I was recruiting Dijon (Johnson). I was on him the most because that would be a big pickup for us,” Stokes told GO’s Pat O’Donnell.

What about On300 wide receiver target Andy Jean?

“Andy, I talked to Andy a couple of times. I’m already on him; I stay on him 24/7. He knows what’s up,” Stokes said.

When walking through the tunnel of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Stokes had a breathtaking moment and certainly took it all in. His adrenaline was through the roof, comparing those feelings to when he is prepping for action alongside his teammates at Nease High.

“I love it, man,” Stokes said. “I can’t wait to get here and start working with them. They are a great group of coaches and I’m just excited.”

Stokes was not surprised by Aidan Mizell’s pledge to UF

On Friday afternoon, the Gators hit the jackpot by landing one of their top targets overall in wide receiver Aidan Mizell. The legacy target committed to UF over additional offers from Alabama and Tennessee.

However, there was not much guessing down the home stretch. I submitted an On3 Recruiting Prediction pick back in April, while there are also the obvious family ties to UF, as both of Mizell’s parents participated in track and field for the Gators.

Although he was committed to Penn State at the time, Stokes was speaking with Mizell behind the scenes about a possible partnership in Gainesville.

“I’ve been knowing he was going to do that. I’ve known him for about two months,” Stokes said. “Before I even de-committed from Penn State, me and him were talking about it.

“We just wanted to make sure we made the move together. I wanted him to be my receiver and he wanted me to be his quarterback, so that works out in both of our favors.”

As GO noted over a week ago, Stokes hopes to take his official visit during week one of the season when Utah comes to town. He is looking to finalize that trip in the coming weeks.
