When Florida hosts LSU this weekend, several prospects will be spending multiple days on campus for their official visit.

One of them will be UF’s signal caller in the class, Marcus Stokes, who hails from Tim Tebow’s alma mater in Ponte Vedra Beach (Fla.) Nease. Five-star prospects James Smith and Qua Russaw are confirmed official visitors for this weekend as well.

On July 7, Stokes announced his commitment to the Gators after flipping from Penn State. He never publicly announced that the Gators extended an offer, but movement was taking place behind the scenes and it ultimately resulted in a verbal commitment to the in-state program.

Tabbed as a four-star prospect, the 6-foot-1.5, 185-pound Stokes checks in as the No. 21 quarterback and No. 353 player regardless of position. That is accoreding to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I called Coach [Billy] Napier and I told him, ‘I’m ready to become a Gator.’ And everybody was ecstatic,” Stokes said during his announcement on 1010XL. “I love how it’s close to home. It’s only an hour and 30 minutes away. It’s benefits me and my parents.”

Scouting Report on Marcus Stokes

Quick-armed passer that can paper cut opponents with his off-schedule athleticism and ability to nickel and dime throws down the field.

Stokes owns an athletic frame that comes in at 6-foot-1.5, 190 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand. Ran an electronically-timed 4.82 40-yard dash as well as a 4.47 shuttle and jumped a 30.5-inch vertical during the spring camp circuit prior to his senior season. Has a quick release that can rip it from multiple arm slots.

Much more comfortable outside of the pocket and on designed bootlegs than within the pocket. Above average arm strength but release makes up for the relative lack of juice on some passes. Stokes led his team to a regional final during his junior season. He he threw for 2,672 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 196 completions for a 59% completion percentage.

Overall arm strength dampens his ability to drive the football downfield at times. Has the ability to frustrate defenses with his skill set to dispense the ball at the underneath and intermediate levels and escape trouble. — On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power
