5 reasons why the Gators could land 5-star recruit LJ McCray

Mississippi-based senior Kahnen Daniels is already labeled a four-star prospect and member of the On300; however, given his success as a senior, it’s safe to say he could be due a rankings bump in the near future.

Through five games at West Point High, the Gators commit has racked up 1,108 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. He has been nearly unstoppable week in and week out, guiding his school to a 3-2 record.

Roughly 24 hours ago, the Florida commit accumulated 121 rushing yards and a touchdown in a 21-20 victory over Tupelo.

According to On3’s rankings, Daniels is the No. 22 running back and No. 268 prospect overall.

Those midseason highlights of Daniels can be viewed below:

What Gators Online sees between the white lines

aniels primarily played quarterback as a junior but spearheads a rush-heavy attack. He often operated in the gun and relied heavily on the read option, so the majority of his success was on the ground.

This is a prospect who sees the field very well. He makes sudden cuts when reacting to the defense and shows impressive lateral quickness as well. Daniels is fluid and has quick feet to go along with it.

Another trait of Daniels that grasps my attention is his patience. When taking direct snaps in the gun, he doesn’t explode forward without seeing daylight. He does a good job reading the offensive linemen and then exploding north and south once finding a crease. This is a crafty ball carrier who is difficult to contain.

I would not call Daniels a blazer, but he definitely does not lack speed either. He shows decent acceleration once getting downhill and has some bounce in his game as well, especially when getting outside. His ability to stop, cut and go stands out.

Daniels also boasts an intriguing frame for the position. He is long and should fill out nicely in UF’s strength and conditioning program. The Gators boast a rush-heavy offensive attack and covet bigger ball carriers like Daniels who can carry the load. He has a style of play that typically wears on a defense over four quarters.

All in all, the Gators are getting a workhorse who is accustomed to shouldering the load. Daniels is a headache to contain due to his vision and ability to make instant cuts off his blockers. On top of that, he does not shy away from contact and wastes little time getting his pads north and south.
