Four-star safety Xavier Filsaime has flipped his commitment to Texas from the Florida Gators.

Filsaime, who attends McKinney High (Texas), had been one of the jewels of the 2024 Florida recruiting class. He committed to the Gators over programs such as Georgia and Southern California on April 13 — the day of Florida’s spring game. Filsaime’s commitment seemed solid for several months, but then Texas offered this fall — and the Gators’ season took a turn for the worse down the stretch.

Filsaime, listed at 6-foot and 185 pounds, is the No. 2 safety and No. 33 overall recruit nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings.

Florida’s once-vaunted class has taken a significant hit in the past few weeks as multiple players have flipped to other schools. Filsaime is the second one-time Gators commit to flip to the Longhorns. Four-star cornerback Wardell Mack of Louisiana was the other.

The Gators, once as high as No. 3 in the class rankings, now sit at No. 7. The early signing period begins Wednesday.

While Filsaime lives in Texas with his father, he lived in Florida earlier in life and his mother still resides there. His recruitment seemed to begin taking a turn toward Texas during Thanksgiving week when he snuck in a trip to Austin. That visit apparently went well, yet Filsaime then attended the Florida-Florida State game at The Swamp a few days later. The Gators lost their fifth straight game that day.

He officially visited the Longhorns last weekend.

One scouting report for Xavier Filsaime

Athletic, physical safety with versatility on the back end. Measured at over 5-foot-11.5, around 180 pounds prior to his junior season. Has average to below average length for the position with a 30.75-inch arm. Turned in very strong track times as a sophomore, with multiple sub-11.0 second marks in the 100 meters, highlighted by a personal best of 10.52 seconds. Primarily worked as a safety as a junior, lining up deep and in the slot. Makes most of his plays as a cover down defender. Physical and throws his body around. Shows pop as a striker. Closes quickly when moving forward. Sniffs out quick passes. Plays with some attitude. Has the speed and fluidity to line up on receivers in man coverage. Did not have much ball production as a junior at safety but was a wide receiver as a sophomore, alleviating questions about ball skills. Did not replicate his sophomore track times as a junior. Younger for the class with an April birthday.
